Te Akau TV - New Year Preview

A warm welcome to this special New Year’s edition of Te Akau TV and we're off and racing into 2026!

As we draw the curtain on 2025, our team remains firmly in racing mode, with runners stepping out on the final day of the year at Pukekura before carrying the momentum straight through and into 2026. It’s been another busy festive period for our people and horses, and the New Year programme reflects the depth of our stable across New Zealand and Australia.

New Year’s Day sees us represented across multiple meetings, including Mornington and Hanging Rock in Victoria, while Ellerslie plays host to a strong Te Akau contingent headlined by four runners contesting Group 2 company. Our two-year-olds Sword Of Stars and Kinnaird line up in the $225,000 Group 2 SkyCity Eclipse Stakes, while Origin Of Love and Born To Be Royal step out in the $270,000 Group 2 Sir Patrick Hogan Stakes, providing a quality platform to begin the year at black-type level.

The action continues on Friday with runners at Terang, Tauranga and Tauherenikau, before the opening weekend of 2026 concludes with further representation at Cranbourne and Geelong. Saturday’s Geelong meeting features Group 3 interest in the $150,000 Geelong Diamond, rounding out a busy and exciting start to the New Year.
