Join us as we unwrap the highlights of the past week, including a terrific Saturday treble of wins with Colonel Warden, Crown Princess and Insatiable all saluting the judge. What a way to celebrate the festive season!
We’re delighted to confirm that Damask Rose will represent Te Akau Racing in The NZB Kiwi in March 2025 - while things didn't go her way from the outside gate on Boxing Day, she is a real talent and the best from her is to come. Adding to the excitement, Belle Du Monde added valuable prize money to her career tally when finishing second as she targets the Karaka 2YO Millions in late January. With under a month to go, Te Akau is eager to chase our 8th Karaka 2YO Millions' title!
Karaka Million's night promises to be a cracker on 25 January, and with that in their sights, our 2YO's La Dorada and Towering Vision will also seek to add to their stakes' tallies too when they contest the $225,000 Group 2 SkyCity Eclipse Stakes at Ellerslie on New Years' Day. Fresh off a last-start win, Crown Princess steps up in the $270,000 Group 2 Sir Patrick Hogan Stakes, while What You Wish For takes on the $270,000 Group 2 Rich Hill Mile.
Looking further ahead, we have an exciting weekend of racing including Trentham where the $550,000 Group 1 Telegraph WFA 1200 takes centre-stage - our representative Skew Wiff is right on target for the event, to be staged for the first time in its new time slot!
As we celebrate success, and look to the future, it’s also a bittersweet moment for us all, and the whole of our industry, as we farewell one of New Zealand’s greatest jockeys, Opie Bosson ONZM. His remarkable career and countless contributions to the sport, both in and out of our iconic Tangerine colours, will forever be cherished and respected. A genius in the saddle, he is indeed one of the finest riders this nation has ever produced. We feel privileged to have had Opie as part of our team over so many years. We have enjoyed wonderful and memorable moments and highlights with Opie and we wish him all the very best for the future.
