Te Akau TV - Weekend Preview
Date: 15 Feb 2024
Welcome to this episode of Te Akau TV, where we're buzzing with excitement on the eve of another stellar Group 1 day in Melbourne.
Before we dive into the trans-Tasman action, let's shine the spotlight on our promising 'Yearling of the Week', this time a little different as it's our two Fillies' Syndicate from the Gold Coast.
Stay tuned as we delve into the potential of these hugely promising fillies - our 2023 Gold Coast fillies duo of Captured By Love (unbeaten in three starts with a Group 2 and Group 3 victory included) and The Victress (winner on debut) is on fire - be part of the 2024 girls, and if you want more details, don't hesitate to reach out!
This week, we catch up with Racing Manager Reece Trumper, and also feature insights from our Te Akau assistant trainer Ben Gleeson on Imperatriz and her upcoming endeavours.
The past week has been a terrific one for our owners, with notable victories including Beau Brummell, Lady Of Court, Quintefeuille, and Superbly Written. It was truly a red-letter day at Riccarton with those four wins, and two second places as well! We couldn't be prouder of these results, shout out to Hunter and our southern time - firing on all cylinders with a breathtaking strike rate!
Additionally, success continued at Te Rapa with Campionessa securing second place in the Group 1 Herbie Dyke Stakes, setting her sights on new horizons in Melbourne as she heads to our Cranbourne base. Joining her will be our Group 1 Levin Classic winner Quintessa who went a ripper for fourth against the older horses in the Group[ 1 BCD Sprint on the same day - they fly on 21 February!
As we gear up for the weekend, our horses are set to compete across various racecourses. Starting at New Plymouth on Friday, the spotlight then shifts to some serious Black Type contenders on Saturday. All eyes will be on Flemington as Imperatriz aims for victory in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes. Meanwhile, at Ellerslie, we're treated to the Listed Skycity Horizon Uncle Remus Stakes, Group 2 Eagle Technology Avondale Guineas, and Group 2 Eagle Technology Avondale Cup. These races serve as significant lead-ups to Auckland Cup week, which is just around the corner.
Remember too, we have one solo runner down in Invercargill - Beau Brummell will back up and contest the Southland Guineas - then we turn our focus to Singapore racing on Saturday evening.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for the following upcoming events: Skew Wiff, Certainly and Campionessa at Caulfield, and before that we will have the Group 2 Matamata Breeders Stakes and Group 3 Matamata Slipper in our sights.
Good luck to Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM too as she heads to Flemington this weekend, and not only to support Imperatriz. She has been asked to be a guest speak at a charity fund-raising function on course that day and deliver her "Love Letter to Racing" with three well-known celebrities. She's had her creative thinking cap on!!
Get ready for another thrilling week on the track - bring it on!
