Te Akau TV - Weekend Preview
Date: 29 Nov 2024
Speed, Stakes, and Sunshine are calling!
Welcome to this week’s edition of Te Akau TV, and while it's a slightly 'quieter weekend' runners-wise, we know summer racing is close with a quality team lining up this weekend.
It’s been a busy 'week that was' and we’re still on a high from the Ready to Run Sale and the sheer quality and promise of the two year olds we purchased. While many of our standout purchases were snapped up quickly, there are still opportunities available in exciting young horses - so don’t miss your chance to secure your share of a future star! remember we bought horses like Group 1 winners Gingernuts, Te Akau Shark and Hall of fame from this sale.

Meanwhile, preparation for the Magic Millions' January Yearling Sale is well underway. David, Reece and Marcus have been transversing New South Wales this past week, visiting studs and farms to inspect some incredible yearlings that are catalogued for the Gold Coast sale. The goal? To unearth the next Imperatriz, Sword of State, Move To Strike, Captured By Love and Return to Conquer, all bought in recent years from this sale by David. These results show why this sale is a great source of future stars.
We had a great team of horses trial at Taupo this week providing an exciting glimpse of the up-and-coming talent in the stable. It’s always rewarding to see the next wave of horses honing their ring-craft, and we’re thrilled about what’s to come as they continue their preparation.
Youngsters such as Wall of Silence, Titahi Bay, Quenza, Dujardoin, Hello Bess and others - all learning more every day.
In just over 24 hours last weekend Te Akau owners celebrated four wins - two in Australia and two in New Zealand. The first celebration came with Return To Conquer, this exciting colt announcing his arrival by winning a stakes' race on debut - the Listed $110,000 Counties Challenge Stakes. It’s not as easy as people would think to win a black type race first up, so we are very proud of the training effort from Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson and our team.
We enjoyed seeing Fastnet Rock mare Bella Voce go back to back when winning again while in Australia Savoir Faire saluted the judge stylishly on Cranbourne Cup Day and Scottie’s Legacy took centre stage with a strong win at Kilmore.
This Saturday promises more excitement:
At Ellerslie, we’ll see:
- Potential Derby hopeful Altari contest the Listed Armacup 3YO Stakes
- Midnight Blue fresh from his Listed Seymour Cup victory has headed to NZ and will have his Kiwi debut in the Group 3 Bayleys Great Northern Challenge Stakes
- Promising 2YO Snitzel filly In Haste making her debut - a trial winner by two lengths earlier this month, she was entrusted to Te Akau to train by the Newgate Farm Stud, SF Bloodstock LLC Ltd and the TAB Racing Club
At Wanganui, Celestial Wonder does step up in class but deserves her black type opportunity in the Listed The O'Learys Fillies' Stakes.
Looking further ahead, we’re gearing up for another exciting weekend of racing at Ellerslie and Trentham in seven days' time, where we’ll see some of our well-known names back in action.
Best of luck to all our owners and connections this weekend! GO THE TANGERINE!
