Te Akau TV - Weekend Preview

11 April, 2025

It’s another week of celebration for the Te Akau team as our 100th winner this season saluted the judge!

Before we dive into the winners, there’s been some Trans-Tasman action off the track, as the team descended upon the 2025 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. Once again, we’ve acquired some exceptional talent, and we’re delighted to introduce the latest additions to the team - all of which will race from our Australian stable.

Te Akau Racing secured three outstanding yearlings, each handpicked for their athleticism, pedigree, and potential to thrive at the highest level. With a history of turning Inglis Easter purchases into stakes-winning horses like Group 1 Levin Classic winner Age of Fire, Sans Doute, and Summer Monsoon, we’re excited about these new arrivals.

We were thrilled to secure Lot 398 - the Snitzel x Harlow Gold colt - purchased for A$1,000,000 and sold within a matter of hours. Lot 248 - a Street Boss filly - was also snapped up on sale day. However, under 20% remains available in the stunning Lot 209, our I Am Invincible filly. This athletic, powerful type is out of Talaria, an O’Reilly mare - and, of course, New Zealand’s Champion Broodmare Sire. She hails from the prestigious Alberton family, with a pedigree that includes recent stable star Damask Rose. With two exceptional sire lines, she presents enormous potential for Group-level success across the Tasman and superb residual value should she deliver on the track.

On the racing front, we reached a major milestone this week, celebrating our 100th New Zealand winner of the season with I Am Nutz, the son of I Am Invincible. A massive congratulations to our team on the ground, and to our loyal owners - what an outstanding achievement!

The winning didn’t stop there. Leaderboard soared to victory over the jumps for the Fortuna team at Ballarat. Now a ten-year-old, this horse simply loves his jumping and will spearhead a strong team over the hurdles on Sunday at Pakenham - all with their sights set on the Warrnambool Carnival.

Looking ahead, we have a number of exciting runners across New Zealand and Australia - things aren’t slowing down as the daylight shortens. At Trentham, Mehzebeen will contest the Listed Valley D’Vine Restaurant Hawke’s Bay Cup. At Riccarton, we have 20 runners, including Best Rose and Queen’s Evidence in the Listed Riccarton Park Function Centre Welcome Stakes - a race we’ve won nine times. Dream Of The Moon, Donna Chiara, and Star Shadow will also line up in the Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes.

At Bendigo, Exuberance contests the Listed Bendigo Guineas, and we’ll round out the weekend with runners at Te Rapa and Pakenham for a busy trans-Tasman Sunday for the tangerine team.

Looking ahead to next week, it's the Manco Easter Handicap at Ellerslie alongside other black type features - shaping up to be a weekend of quality racing.

Best of luck to all owners and connections this weekend. We sincerely thank you for your continued support and look forward to sharing even more success with you! GO THE TANGERINE!
