Te Akau TV - Weekend Preview

27 February, 2026

Before we dive into this week’s racing, it has been another outstanding week for Te Akau and the countdown is officially on to the $4 million NZB Kiwi on Champions’ Day, Saturday 7 March at Ellerslie.

Momentum is building perfectly for the Tangerine Team, both on the track and behind the scenes. As always at this time of year, while our current stars prepare for the big stage, we are also looking to the future. This week we are pleased to introduce our Yearling of the Week, showcasing one of our exciting young prospects secured for syndication.

YEARLING OF THE WEEK – LOT 267

This week’s spotlight falls on Lot 267 – Super Seth (AUS) | American Actress (NZ), a striking brown colt secured for $325,000 from the outstanding draft of Waikato Stud at Karaka 2026.

When Coolmore comes calling, you know a stallion is making serious noise. In a landmark move, Super Seth was secured by Coolmore from Waikato Stud to stand in the Hunter Valley. This global recognition confirms his rise as one of the most exciting young sires in the Southern Hemisphere. Already a Champion First and Second Season Sire and Champion 2YO Sire, he has produced multiple Group 1 winners from his earliest crops, including Te Akau’s own La Dorada. His trajectory is not just upward. It is international.

Fittingly, we have secured a colt with a touch of Hollywood about him.

Lot 267 is by Super Seth out of American Actress, so you could say we have signed a Hollywood star. Purchased for $325,000 from Waikato Stud at Karaka 2026, this colt is bred on the proven Super Seth x Savabeel cross, the same cross as La Dorada. The pedigree carries depth, performance and elite New Zealand influence, while physically he is everything you want to see. Strength, scope, presence and athleticism.

He is an eye-catching colt with natural balance and power, the type that gives you every reason to dream big.

With Super Seth now firmly on the global stage and this family continuing to deliver, Lot 267 represents an outstanding opportunity to be involved in a colt by a stallion whose legacy is building fast.

We welcome you to learn more below about this serious Super Seth colt!

Across the past seven days we celebrated winners from north to south, with Captured By Love, Crown Princess and Cool And Fast all saluting for their owners. A reflection of the depth and strength across the stable.

And of course, on her way to the NZB Kiwi, Belle Cheval, a three-year-old filly by Savabeel out of Keepa Cheval, produced a brilliant performance to win the $150,000 Group 3 Eagle Technology Uncle Remus Stakes over 1400 metres at Ellerslie on 21 February. Already successful in the Group 3 Cambridge Stud Almanzor Trophy on Karaka Millions night, she now boasts three wins from five starts, including a courageous third in the Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas. Progressive, professional and proven at headquarters, she heads to Champions’ Day in outstanding form and building beautifully toward the biggest test of her preparation for her breeder/owners David Archer and Diane Wright and family.

In the Te Akau Kiwi slot, we will be represented by He Who Dares, a three-year-old colt by Snitzel out of Rondinella, to be ridden by Opie Bosson. A debut winner who has since placed four times at Group and Listed level, he was runner-up in the $1.5 million TAB Karaka Millions 3YO and most recently finished strongly for second in a key Taupo trial. Consistent, competitive and battle-hardened, he has earned his opportunity on the big stage.

And then there is La Dorada, proudly known as "The People’s Horse". Raced by NZTR slot holder and representing the wider racing industry, she has captured the imagination of fans across the country. Tough, genuine and courageous in her performances, she carries not just the Tangerine colours but the hopes of a community. She embodies exactly what the NZB Kiwi was designed to celebrate. Opportunity, unity and modern ownership.

While we can't say anything just yet - watch this space for more Te Akau exciting NZB Kiwi news soon!

The $4 million NZB Kiwi over 1500 metres headlines Champions’ Day next Saturday at Ellerslie, and with the stable having 13 nominations currently across the card, it shapes as one of the most significant race days of our season.

The NZB Kiwi barrier draw takes place on Tuesday and anticipation is building rapidly.

While all roads lead to Ellerslie next weekend, the action begins again this Friday and carries through to Sunday with runners across New Zealand and Australia.

Friday evening sees the team represented at Cranbourne. Last start winner Lyrics ’N’ Song, the first foal of Melody Belle, contests the 1200 metres under lights, while Stage ’N’ Screen steps out over 2025 metres looking to change her recent luck.

Saturday brings a busy programme. At Wingatui, feature racing headlines the card with the Dunedin Guineas, Dunedin Gold Cup and White Robe Lodge Stakes. Perlino lines up in the Guineas, Court Of Appeal and Elegant Lady contest the staying feature, and Stonybreck steps out in the White Robe Lodge. Strong support through the earlier events includes Never Too Much, Elysienne, Insatiable, Trobriand and Purple Prose and we are delighted that Opie Bosson travels to south to ride many of our team.

At Matamata, the home-track team is well represented across the programme, including Arrazola, Cease And Desist, Family Ties, One True King and Savoir Faire. The BM75 sprint features Legally Binding, Charmrose, Brazen Affair and Egyptian Queen, while Balance Of Power and Zantabulous contest the mile.

Across the Tasman at Flemington, Harry Met Sally lines up in the A$175,000 Listed TAB 2YO Stakes over 1000 metres at headquarters, drawing barrier one.

Sunday concludes at Trentham, highlighted by My Lips Are Sealed contesting the $200,000 Group 3 Cuddle Stakes over 1600 metres.

A great weekend lies ahead, with even more on the horizon for Te Akau and you, our owners, in the coming weeks. Wishing you all the very best this weekend! GO THE TANGERINE!
