Te Akau TV Weekend Preview + Spotlight On Our Yearlings
Date: 23 Feb 2023
We're back this week with Racing Manager Reece Trumper as he provides a wrap-up of the week that's been including the win of Te Akau ‘home bred' Elegant Lady at New Plymouth.
Reece talks through the team's chances at Otaki including three runners in the Group 1 El Cheapo Cars WFA Classic. Wild Night becomes only the second 3YO in the past 10 years to take on the older horses in this race and is supported by Prise De Fer and last start winner of the Group 3 White Robe Lodge, Perfect Scenario.
The interstable rivalry will be no fiercer than at Matamata on Saturday. Reece explains the bragging rights around the Group 2 J Swap Contractors Ltd Matamata Breeders' Stakes - a race Te Akau has won on multiple occasions! The team's hopes sit on the shoulders of Sky on Fire, Rubicon Crossing and Zourion. Earlier in the card we see Karaka Million 2YO winner Tokyo Tycoon go head to head with Trobiand in the Group 3 Fairview Motors Matamata Slipper while Belle En Rouge and Belle of the Ball meet each other again alongside La Flora Belle in the Listed Matamata Veterinary Services Kaimai Stakes. As always, Reece provides his best for the weekend.
We missed David Ellis last week due to power outages at the farm after Cyclone Gabrielle. David talks about the recent fundraising efforts from Team Te Akau which has seen over $40,000 raised from our ownership base A massive effort and big thank you to our fantastic friends and supporters.
David then shines the light on another two exciting purchases from the NZB Karaka Yearling Sales:
