We are all a bit sad today to see Mark Walker leave to go back to Singapore.

It has been a very successful trip and we have really enjoyed going around the farm together looking at the yearlings that we are bought from the sales. There is no doubt we have bought the best group of yearlings ever.

We make the commitment to purchase whatever we want at the sales even if we don't have owners for them at that time. We believe it is important for us to buy the quality of young horses that we want to have in our stable to train - and for our owners to have shares in.  It is just really amazing how quickly the yearlings have sold this year. Already the following are fully sold:

There are still shares available in some cracking young horses including:

GOLD COAST - LOT 4 COMMANDS (AUS)/ADULTERER (NZ) BAY COLT

This colt is about to be broken in and he has really impressed me. This colt has a beautiful pedigree on the female side and is by one of the world's best stallions who has already left 67 stakes' winners. I love this colt and can see us taking him back to the Gold Coast next January for the $2 million 2YO race then the following year it would be the $2 million 3YO race. How exciting would that be!

A 10% share of this colt is $14,500 plus G.S.T and a 5% share is only $7,250 plus G.S.T

This colt could well finish up standing at stud if he won a Group One race - he has class written all over him this bloke and was on our ‘must buy' list.  I think he was such great value for money because he came up so early in the sale.

Another filly we have just a few shares remaining in, is Lot 21. This is a beautifully bred filly with an international pedigree being by Encosta Lago out of the South Australian Guineas' winning mare Andallthatjazz. Te Akau Racing has had huge success with the progeny of Encosta de Lago and from this sale ground we have already purchased two champion mares:

  1. Costa Viva - NZB Filly of the Year won the Listed Ray Coupland Stakes and the Group 1 NZB 1000 Guineas before she was sold for huge money to Australia.

  2. Princess Coup - another Encosta filly who won nine black type races including the only two $2 million races ever held in NZ, the Kelt Capital Stakes as well as a Group 1 NZ Oaks - four Group 1 races in total. Again this filly won the NZB Filly of the Year award. She was also Champion 3YO, Champion Miler (twice) and Champion Stayer. She was also very successful in Australia and in total won well over $4 million in prizemoney before she was sold for A$3 million. Princess Coup earned more prize money domestically in New Zealand than any horse in the history of New Zealand Racing.

This Encosta filly is just as good an athlete as those two fillies.

It was a huge saving buying these two yearlings so early in the sale - they would have been, in my opinion, over double their prices later in the day when the sale really took off.

A 10% share in this filly is only $7,000 plus G.S.T and a 5% share $3500 plus G.S.T

There is only one share left in this filly so call us today at Te Akau on 07 825 4701

lot 21

I can personally recommend both of these yearlings but you will need to be quick.

We have some really exciting runners in the next week, leading in to Xtravagant running at Te Rapa on Saturday week and a big team racing at Matamata next week.

I am delighted that Sir Patrick Hogan has chosen Te Akau Racing to train his very last Zabeel filly - and when you look at our record with fillies why wouldn't he? Te Akau has a phenomenal track record including five NZB Filly of the Year title winners in the past 10 years. This filly, named Unfazed, has had a full preparation and is now having a short spell before we get her ready to trial in the Autumn.

Have a great week.
