Te Akau Update

When the little bird is on your shoulder everything just seems to happen, to fall into place.

This week I have put quite a lot of fertiliser on - mainly lime and super phosphate and then yesterday afternoon we had 8mls of rain which washed it all in.  We also have quite a lot of area that we have re-grassed and the 8mls is just marvellous for those paddocks too.

We have had a full-on week with 12 lots of visitors coming to see their horses and owners coming each day to visit the yearlings.  I must admit that I was in bed asleep by 8.30pm.

Today we have three Groups of owners coming to see their horses that are being broken in or are in work and we have our farrier Gareth Allis working here all day - so there is plenty going on.

Tomorrow we have the Waikato Racing Club's meeting at Te Rapa.  Karyn is on the Board there so she will be on duty after doing Trackside and I am really looking forward to another day of racing at one of my favourite tracks.    There will be the first Te Rapa jumping races of the season - which I always look forward to.  It's the first day of Te Rapa's two day jumps' meeting, with the second day being 18 May when we are in Singapore with our travelling group.  I love the jumping at Te Rapa especially the steeple chasing with five jumps down the straight - it is quite spectacular.

We have two good chances in race 9 and 10 tomorrow, providing the track doesn't get too heavy.  In race 9 we have Riedel who is part owned by my daughter Julia-Rose so we will be trying really hard to win her first race for her!  In the last we line up Imperial Miss who is a lovely staying mare but we have been forced to claim with because she has been carded with 59kgs.

This week has seen us launch our brand new website and the feedback that we have been receiving has been amazing.  The site is Karyn's baby and she has worked really hard to get Te Akau the best website possible so I hope you all enjoy it.

Have a great weekend.
