Te Akau Waikato Wednesday Preview

25 September, 2019

Te Akau New Zealand has seven horses racing on Wednesday 25 September at Te Rapa.

Weather: showery, track: Slow7, rail: out 8 metres. 40.5 mis past 24 hours - forecast 6mls race day.

12.32 p.m. R1 1 Richard of Yorke  (8 g Oasis Dream - Cascata) - Chelsea Burdan (a3); fought hard for third after the tracking the winner three wide on 14 September in the Rating 82 2200 metres at Awapuni. Racing consistently on heavy going, with two wins and placed three times from his last six starts, weight relief to 56kgs can see him competitive in the $11,000 Rating 82 2200 metres if appreciative of the course at the first attempt.

1.42 p.m. R3 8 Oceans Eight  (4 m Ocean Park - Ruud Van Slaats) - Ryan Elliot; was nabbed on the line after leading in a trial here on 20 August and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Her dam, Ruud Van Slaats (Van Nistelrooy), won three of her five starts here, including two over 1200 metres and the Cal Isuzu Stakes (Gr. 2, 1600m), and left four individual winners of 14 races. A half-sister to Smashing (Pins), trained by Te Akau to win six times and twice stakes placed, she has the credentials to race well fresh-up.

1.42 p.m. R3 12 Vicenza  (3 f Sacred Falls - Tonic) - Michael McNab; has trialled well and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Her dam, Tonic (Blues Traveller), won six times, including three stakes wins over 1600 metres, and left five individual winners of 22 races. Although likely to get back a touch from barrier two, she has what it takes to prove competitive in the finish.

2.17 p.m. R4 11 Vamos Bebe (3 f I Am Invincible - Hurtle Myrtle) - Michael McNab; has trialled well and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Her dam, Hurtle Myrtle (Dane Shadow), won the Myer Classic (Gr. 1, 1600m), Dane Ripper Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m) and Sapphire Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m), and she has the quality to race well first-up from barrier five.

2.54 p.m. R5 5 Willpower  (4 g Power - The Lady) - Troy Harris; spelled after racing in May and has a trial under his belt to resume in the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. A consistent type, the right trip from an awkward draw (9) would aid his prospects if appreciative of the course at his first attempt.

2.54 p.m. R5 11 Ristretto  (4 m Makfi - Espresso Cavallo) - Michael McNab; spelled following a polished debut win as an autumn two-year-old, and shaping up again after a quiet three-year-old season. Good through the line in two trials and ideally drawn (2) to resume in the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres, she could front with a bold first-up performance if appreciative of the course at her first attempt.

3.29 p.m. R6 6 Man Oh Man  (4 g Reliable Man - Lumir) - Troy Harris; has shown ability and a staying type he resumes in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres. A wide draw (14) makes it tough, but being later in the day could help to negate and genuine pace would also aid his chances of getting into the finish.
