Te Akau Waipa Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has three horses entered for the eight race programme on Wednesday 6 April at Waipa.

As on Tuesday 5 April the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail true.

12.44 p.m. R1 8 I See Fire (3 f Encosta De Lago - Chasing Mammon) - Shaun McKay (a1); raced outside the leader before finishing fourth in the Maiden 3YO 1600 metres on Good2 footing at Hawera, after setting a comfortable pace to finish second in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres on Dead4 at Avondale. Drawn three of eight runners in the Maiden 1580 metres for apprentice jockeys, she receives an ideal chance to prove competitive again.

1.19 p.m. R2 2 Rocksun (3 g Fastnet Rock - Beyond the Sunset) - Shaun McKay (a1); held third comfortably in a recent 1000-metre trial at Matamata, requiring further, and resumes off 182 days in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres. A solid trials performer, having his second race day start, he displays good attributes and appears ideally placed in a field of only six.

4.34 p.m. R8 1 Hushed (5 g Don Eduardo - Danewhisper) - Hanafi Noorman (a4); was freshened after winning a Maiden 2000 metres by two and a half lengths in December at Hastings, and resumes in the Rating 65 1580 metres. Providing apprentice Hanafi with his first race day ride, he maintained a solid gallop for fourth with this jockey aboard in a recent trial at Matamata. He is a consistent performer, aided by a four kilo claim to carry 56kgs from barrier four.
