Te Akau Wairoa Preview
25 February, 2016
Te Akau New Zealand has six horses entered for the eight race programme on Thursday February 24 at Wairoa.
As on race day the conditions were: fine and Good3, rail true.
1.11 p.m. R1 4 Cathedral Cove (4 g Zabeel - Thistle Cove) - Michael McNab; galloped clear for a strong trial win over 1400 metres on February 9 at Matamata, with this rider aboard, and makes his debut from barrier six in the Maiden 1900 metres. His half-sister, Wonderland (Encosta De Lago), won fresh up over 2200 metres, to indicate stoutness, and emulation of his trial should see a bold performance.
1.11 p.m. R1 8 Amperage (3 g Zabeel - Miss Zapper) - Matt Cameron; over-raced outside leader when resuming over a mile on Sunday at Gisborne, and has a tongue tie applied. Stepping up in distance to 1900 metres should suit and an improved performance is expected.
1.46 p.m. R2 8 Latin Rose (4 m Mastercraftsman - Down View) - Matt Cameron; followed back-to-back wins over 1400 metres with a solid performance off the front for second in the Rating 75 1400 metres on February 16 at Hastings, and competitively weighted (55.5kgs) she again looks a strong each way chance in the Rating 75 1300 metres.
2.21 p.m. R3 5 Linchpin (3 g Pins - Laurinel Princess) - Matt Cameron; settled back off a wide gate and made plenty of ground for third when trialling over 1000 metres on February 9 at Matamata, and makes his debut from the outside barrier in a field of thirteen for the Maiden 1200 metres. With luck from the draw he rates a top five chance.
2.21 p.m. R3 11 Carmenize (3 f Any Suggestion - Zevita) - Samantha Collett; had a blowout on Sunday in the Maiden 1200 metres at Gisborne, and from barrier three she has a tongue tie on for the Maiden 1200 metres. She gets a chance to show improvement.
3.31 p.m. R5 7 Osmunda (5 m O'Reilly - Wyndam Special) - Matt Cameron; went up to force the issue at the 800m before finishing third to Predator (Savabeel) in the Rating 65 1818 metres at New Plymouth, and drew barrier five in the Rating 65 1900 metres. She continues to look a picture and should prove very competitive again.
