Te Akau Wairoa Preview
25 February, 2018
Te Akau New Zealand has five horses racing on Sunday 25 February at Wairoa.
As on Saturday 24 February the conditions were: fine and Good3, rail true. No rain forecast.
12.30 p.m. R1 6 Beau Geste (3 g Pour Moi - Villa Wanda) - Sam Weatherley; was blocked at the 600m and did well to pick up with a strong finish for fourth in the Maiden 1900 metres here on Thursday. Drawn barrier three in the $10,000 Maiden 2100 metres, with blinkers replacing visor blinkers, the half-brother to Champion galloper Wall Street (Montjeu) appears a good chance providing he copes with the short back up.
1.40 p.m. R3 2 Remington (3 g Darci Brahma - Kudamm) - Sam Weatherley; sustained a strong finish from the rear of a small field for second on debut in the Maiden 1200 metres last Sunday at Gisborne, following back-to-back seconds at the trials. Weatherley retains the ride. From the impressive winner Kudamm (Cape Cross), who notched three of her four wins over 1600 metres, he should get over more ground but capable of another bold showing in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres.
2.15 p.m. R4 8 Lillet Rose (4 m Pins - Lillet) - Sam Weatherley; raced outside the leader from a wide draw and claimed near the line when third in the Maiden 1600 metres last Sunday at Gisborne, with Weatherley aboard, and drawn wide (11) in the $10,000 Rating 65 1450 metres. Three seconds and two thirds from five starts reflect her consistency and no reason she cannot force the issue again.
2.50 p.m. R5 7 Scarlet Princess (4 m Redwood - Volks Princess) - Sam Weatherley; went forward but never fired in the Rating 65 1600 metres last Sunday at Gisborne, with Weatherley aboard, and drawn barrier seven in the $10,000 Rating 65 1400 metres. She has shown to be much better than her last performance and will look to find the line following a more patient ride.
3.24 p.m. R6 4 Unfazed (4 m Zabeel - Fazed) - Alysha Collett; raced clear to win the Rating 65 1400 metres by four lengths here on Thursday, with Collett aboard, and contests the corresponding $10,000 event with a 2kg weight penalty to carry 58kgs. Like Beau Geste, above, providing she copes with a quick back up then no reason why another top run is not forthcoming.
