Te Akau Wairoa Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has seven horses racing on Sunday 24 February at Wairoa.

As on Saturday 23 February the conditions were: overcast and Dead4, rail true. 8mls rain forecast Sunday.

12.40 p.m. R1 1 Beau Geste(4 g Pour Moi - Villa Wanda) - Rosie Myers; was claimed on the line when resuming last Sunday in the Maiden 1600 metres at Gisborne. Registering two seconds and two fourths from six starts, the half-brother to multiple Group One winner Wall Street (Montjeu) rates a top three chance in the $10,000 Maiden 2100 metres.

1.15 p.m. R2 8 Military Step(3 g Tavistock - Marching On) - Craig Grylls; debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres, after trialling well for second and fifth respectively. His dam, Marching On (Pentire), impressed with an excellent turn of foot when winning three times up to 1200 metres. He appears ideally placed to go well from barrier four.

1.50 p.m. R3 8 Mary Gold(2 f Ocean Park - Gold Rocks) - Rosie Myers; trialled well, making ground for fifth and third respectively and appears ideally placed to debut in the $20,000 2YO 1200 metres. Her half-sister Gold Fever (Savabeel), bought by David Ellis, was an exceptionally talented juvenile, winning the Matamata Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) and finishing third in both the Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) and Eclipse Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m). And a Champion Two-Year-Old finalist (won by stable-mate Melody Belle (Commands)).

2.25 p.m. R4 2 Griffin(4 g Iffraaj - Double Elle) - Chelsea Burdan (a4); made it two out of three during this campaign with victory here in the Rating 72 1300 metres on Thursday, ridden by Burdan. Remaining in the same grade for the $12,000 Rating 72 1500 metres, he carries an extra two kilos, but still nicely weighted with a claim to 56kgs, and should appreciate to the extra distance to rate a top three chance from barrier two.

2.25 p.m. R4 5 Full of Grace(4 g O'Reilly - Tuesday's Child) - Craig Grylls; produced a strong winning performance in the Rating 65 1600 metres last Sunday at Gisborne, with Grylls aboard, and advances in grade for the $12,000 Rating 72 1500 metres. He brings winning form and has top three prospects in this field.

3.35 p.m. R6 2 Rock Idol(4 g Rock ‘N' Pop - Edesia) - Craig Grylls; fought solidly for fifth when resuming in the Maiden 2YO & Up 1200 metres on Sunday at Gisborne, before winning the Maiden 1400 metres easing down by three and a half lengths here on Thursday, ridden in each by Grylls. He meets a tougher field up in the $10,000 Rating 65 1300 metres, but ideally drawn (2) and brings winning form.

3.35 p.m. R6 5 Miss Scandinavia(4 m Smart Missile - Miss Helsinki) - Rosie Myers; made ground from last when resuming here on Thursday in the Rating 65 1200 metres. A winner during her spring campaign down South, she continued solid form in this grade with two seconds and a third before spelling. She has the ability to prove far more competitive from barrier five in the $10,000 Rating 65 1300 metres.
