Te Akau Waitangi Day Thursday Preview
6 February, 2020
Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Thursday 6 February (Waitangi Day): Tauranga and Tauherenikau.
Tauranga:
Weather: fine, track: Dead4, rail: out 7 metres. No rain forecast.
3.02 p.m. R5 2 Excitonic (3 g Savabeel - Bint Piavonic)
- Opie Bosson; delivered emphatically on 15 January in the Maiden 1400 metres
at Rotorua, after running the fastest last 600m (34.6) when second over 1200
metres on 27 December at New Plymouth. Ideally drawn (3) in the $22,500 Rating
65 1400 metres, he has the right credentials to rate a top three chance.
3.37 p.m. R6 3 Willpower (4 g Power - The Lady) - Opie Bosson; followed a good trial with a fresh-up win in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 30 December at Taupo, and beaten a nose in the Rating 72 1200 metres on 19 January at Te Rapa. He meets a small but competitive field in the $25,000 Rating 72 1200 metres and rates a top three chance with luck from the outside draw (7).
Tauherenikau:
Weather: drizzling, track: Dead5, rail: true. No further rain forecast.
2.45 p.m. R5 1 Swing Note (5 m Encosta De Lago -
Andallthatjazz) - Rosie Myers; produced a solid effort for second in the Rating
82 2200 metres on 17 January at Tauranga, and while remaining in the same grade
for the $20,000 Rating 82 2050 metres she jumps two-kilos to carry 59kgs.
Winner of the Spring Classic (Listed, 2000m) last season at Riccarton, and
highest rated, she appears a top three chance from barrier four.
4.26 p.m. R8 11 Miss Hepburn (4 m Reliable Man - Love
the Limelight) - Johnathan Parkes; appeared ready to step in distance after
contesting the Maiden 1400 metres on 19 January at Te Rapa, and gets that in
the $10,000 Maiden 1600 metres. Although drawn wide (10), she could race well
if appreciative of the course at her first attempt.
