Te Akau Wanganui Preview
11 January, 2018
Te Akau New Zealand has seven horses racing on Thursday 11 January at Wanganui.
As on race morning the conditions were: drizzling and Dead4, rail out 2 metres.
1.02 p.m. R3 8 Poppin' Bubbles (3 f Rock ‘N' Pop - Princess Caga) - Michael McNab; was found to have a slow recovery after resuming in the Maiden 1200 metres on 14 December at Hastings, having sustained a strong gallop for second when trialling on 28 November at Matamata. Back on song in training, she has the addition of blinkers and a tongue tie in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO Fillies 1200 metres.
1.37 p.m. R4 7 Coup Bradman (3 g Darci Brahma - Bosphorus) - Michael McNab; kept up a strong gallop when trialling on 28 November at Matamata, and resumes off 111 days in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. He has been consistent at the trials, including a strong second to stable-mate and Champion Two-Year-Old Melody Belle (Commands). With a decent trip from barrier eight he appears capable of good performance.
2.12 p.m. R5 5 Lady Amadeus (4 m Medaglia D'oro - Rialto Bridge) - Cameron Lammas; cleared Maidens in no uncertain terms and followed with an unlucky fourth and noteworthy third during a spring campaign from the Te Akau base at Riccarton. Freshened and resuming off 54 days in the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres, she strips in good order to rate an each way chance from barrier five.
3.22 p.m. R7 11 English Rose (3 f Makfi - Bislieri) - Cameron Lammas; freshened since finishing fourth in the Maiden 1600 metres on 10 November at Avondale, she has drawn barrier one to contest the $10,000 Maiden 1340 metres off 62 days. Notable when sixth on debut to Ever Loyal (Sebring), subsequently third in the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m), she is a sister to 2016 New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Sofia Rosa (Makfi), and capable of a bold performance.
3.57 p.m. R8 6 Elegant D'Oro (4 m Medaglia d'Oro - Elegant Fashion) - Michael McNab; followed a resolute win in the Maiden 1400 metres on 10 December at Waipukurau, and again finished solidly for third in the Rating 65 1560 metres on 27 December at Rotorua. Despite a wide draw (11), she is racing genuinely and rates an each way chance in the $10,000 Rating 65 1600 metres.
4.37 p.m. R9 7 Lillet Rose (4 m Pins - Lillet) - Michael McNab; followed a highly creditable debut performance in the Maiden 1400 metres on 7 December at New Plymouth, and again finished second on the same course in the NZB Pearl Series Maiden 1600 metres on 27 December. Aided by drawing barrier one in the $10,000 Maiden 1600 metres, she brings the form to warrant favouritism.
5.12 p.m. R10 6 Silver Missile (3 g Smart Missile - Ocelot) - Cameron Lammas; found the line when finishing fifth fresh-up in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres on 27 December at New Plymouth, and steps in distance for the $10,000 Maiden 1600 metres. Pleasing in training, he can improve further from barrier one.
