Te Akau Warrnambool Tuesday Preview

Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Tuesday 5 May Warrnambool (Victoria).

Weather: showers, track: Soft6, rail: true. 11mls rain forecast on Monday and 2mls Tuesday. 

1:20 p.m. (NZ) - 11:20 p.m. (Vic) R1 10 West Indies (4 g Fastnet Rock – Anchovy) – Arron Lynch; he finished fifth when making his jumps’ debut in the Maiden Hurdle (3200m) on 19 April at Terang, and contests the A$50,000 Maiden Hurdle (3200m). He commenced his jumping career with an encouraging performance and receives a good opportunity to further improve. NZ TAB fixed odds: $14.00 & $3.20.

2:40 p.m. (NZ) - 12:40 p.m. (Vic) R3 5 Malborough Bay (6 g Darci Brahma – Spin ‘N Grin) – Arron Lynch; he mixed his jumping somewhat when resuming in the Maiden Hurdle (3200m) on 26 March at Warrnambool, but has since placed in both a trial and jump out on the flat. Contesting the A$50,000 Maiden Hurdle (3200m), he has always shown jumping ability and this is a good assignment for him to start putting it all together on race day. NZ TAB fixed odds: $9.50 & $2.50. 

4:20 p.m. (NZ) - 2:20 p.m. (Vic) R6 2 Leaderboard (11 g Street Cry – Flower Fairy) – Will Gordon; this grand campaigner finished third to race rival Stern Idol (Raven’s Pass) in the J.E.H Spencer Memorial Steeplechase (3850m) on 19 April at Terang, and is one of two stablemates contesting the A$150,000 3YB FM Scotty Stewart Brierley Steeplechase (3450m). He has strong credentials, being course/distance win and placed - he fell in this event last year, but went on to be the subsequent Grand National Steeplechase (4500m) winner, and he looks a top three chance. NZ TAB fixed odds: $8.50 & $1.85.

4:20 p.m. (NZ) - 2:20 p.m. (Vic) R6 3 The Mighty Spar (8 g Savabeel – O’Dianne) – Tom Ryan; he finished second to race rival Stern Idol (Raven’s Pass) in the J.E.H Spencer Memorial Steeplechase (3850m) on 19 April at Terang, and likewise contests the A$150,000 3YB FM Scotty Stewart Brierley Steeplechase. He loves this chapter of his career, and has been twice course/distance placed. He rallied well for seventh in the corresponding 2025 event, won four steeplechases in a row last year, and he too deserves to be well respected in this field. NZ TAB fixed odds: $5.00 & $1.45.
