Te Akau Waverley Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Wednesday 28 January Waverley.

Waverley:

Weather: cloudy, track: Soft7, rail: out 1 metre 950m – 800m, remainder true. No rain forecast.

3.55 p.m. R4 8 Bellish Boy (3 g Embellish – Stylish Achiever) – Bruno Queiroz; he was posted wide in each of his first two starts, both at Tauranga, and contests the $25,000 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres. He found a very good kick to win comfortably at the trials on 14 November at Avondale, prior to racing, the blinkers are on and he receives the opportunity to improve from barrier three - the first of two in the event for the stable. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.25.

3.55 p.m. R4 14 Zambrosia (3 f Zoustar – Positive Problems) – Amber Riddell (a1); she finished sixth after working on pace when debuting in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 9 January at Otaki, and contests the $25,000 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres. She finished off well near the rail for fifth in a trial on 9 December at Pukekohe, prior to racing, and looked good winning her first trial as two-year-old. She has weight relief to 54.5kg, and appears capable of improved performance from barrier six. Fixed odds: $14.00 & $4.20.

4:30 p.m. R5 8 Man Of Style (3 g Reliable Man – Style Queen) – Jim Chung (a2); he began well from his outside gate (14) to lead and peaked late to finish fifth when debuting in the Maiden 1600 metres on 9 January at Otaki. Contesting the $25,000 Maiden 1650 metres, he trialled well prior to racing, and he hails from the family of Te Akau bought and trained record-holding Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas (1600m) winner Xtravagant (Pentire). He has weight relief to 55kg, and is ideally drawn (4) to race well. Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.45.

5:50 p.m. R6 2 Knowledge Is Power (4 g Written Tycoon – Hectopascal) – Jim Chung (a2); he began well from barrier one to lead, travelled on the bridle, quickened in the straight and was not pressured when sustaining a run for a close second in a trial on 13 January at Tauranga. Resuming in the $25,000 Rating 65 1200 metres, he has been a dual winner over 1200 metres, ended his previous campaign finishing third, has weight relief to 57.5kg, is ideally drawn (3), and has the ability to act fresh. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.30.

Note - Hayley Hassman alongside other riders has been subjected to a transport delay and have not arrived in time to fulfil their riding engagements - new riders updated above.
