Te Akau Weekend Update

There is nothing that is more fun than seeing new yearlings arrive at Te Akau Stud - I got a huge thrill out of seeing our five Sydney fillies arrive home in such good condition - and shares are selling very quickly.

One of the fillies I am really excited about is our Fastnet Rock filly out of Cierzo - she is an absolute stand-out and we start breaking her in tomorrow morning.

She is out of a Centaine mare who has already left two Group 1 winners.

Since we bought this filly Fastnet Rock has probably had the best 10 days ever - his progeny has won six black type races including the Australian Oaks.

I consider Fastnet Rock one of the best sires to ever stand in this part of the world - don't forget that he has left Group 1 winners in Europe, one coming to mind is the English Oaks.

There are only two shares remaining so don't hesitate if you want to be involved.

Shortly after lunch today we had another two yearlings drive home that we had bought from the South Island Sale -

Lot 33 is a Ghibellines colt out of an Evancho mare and I bought him for just $13,000!

I really like Ghibellines as a sire prospect - in fact Mark Walker and I liked him so much we bred a mare to him.

This is a staying Derby type of horse and we bought him from one of the great New Zealand nurseries in White Robe Lodge.

Then I bought a striking filly by Proisir who I think has a great future.  She could well be a Karaka Million filly.  We will start breaking her in tomorrow too.  This sale was obviously a buyers' market and we were thrilled to buy this filly for $41,000.

The reason I buy all these yearlings is because I want our stable to train top horses.  Horses that I can be really proud of seeing win big races and it's great because we have the best owners in the business who love racing horses.
