Te Akau's First UK Starter
7 May, 2016
We are all very excited that the Te Akau tangerine will step out at Ascot this weekend - the very first time our colours have been seen in Britain, and on one of racing's most famous tracks.
They will be proudly worn by Torcedor - the Fastnet Rock gelding out of 4-time Ascot Gold Cup winner Yeats' full sister Magnolia Lane.
This colt, purchased by David at the Deauville sale in France and is managed by him for stable clients Sir Peter Vela, Sir Patrick Hogan, Mohammed Moussa and Laurie Laxon and is trained for Te Akau in Ireland by David Wachman.
Torcedor is already a stakes' winner in Ireland and we are hugely excited about the 4YO's first outing in Britain - he steps out at 3.05pm saturday (UK time) and looks to be in for an exciting season - here is some pre race reporting:
This gelding will have his second run of the season in a 1m 4f Listed race at Ascot on Saturday. Following his encouraging comeback run at Limerick last month this looked a good race to aim towards with him. He came out of Limerick in good shape and seems very well in himself while his run there looks to have brought him forward nicely. On ratings he looks to have a bit to find but his form stands up well in comparison to a number of his rivals and we believe that he is lining up with a good chance. He has shown before that he is quite capable of holding his own at this level and hopefully he will give a good account of himself.
Scotland is a very capable sort who has been Group 2-placed over this course and distance. He hasn't run since contesting the Ascot Gold Cup in June but looks a leading contender. Missed Call won a 1m 4f Kempton Listed race on her last start and before that she was placed in a Group 3 over this course and distance. Elite Army won a Royal Ascot handicap over this trip in June 2014. He has only run once since when failing to produce his best at Newbury a year ago. Astronereus progressed very well in decent handicaps last season.
15.05 Carey Group Buckhounds Stakes (Listed) (Class 1 ) of £45,000.00 4-y-o plus
