Te Akau's Tuesday Trialists

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday Feb. 25 at Matamata
The footing was rated Good3, with the rail in the true position.

We are pleased to advise that Te Akau stable rider Matt Cameron has no broken bones after being kicked at the trials - he was taken to the local medical centre who confirmed no breakage.  Great relief to us all that you are AOK Matt.

Heat 1 Open 1200 metres (¾ lengths, ¾ lengths 1:13.9)
Sneaky Feelings (4 m High Chaparral - Landara) - Alex Forbes below; worked up comfortably outside the leader, quickened when the pace increased at the 200 metres and went to the line in good fashion for second.

Heat 2 Open 1200 metres (1 ½ lengths, 1 length 1:11.98)
Wolfwhistle (3 c O'Reilly - Legs) - Matt Cameron below; led early before steadying to second in a gap and presented to challenge on straightening he worked home nicely for second before rolling on past the line.

La Adelita (3 f High Chaparral - Romantic Liaisons) - Vinnie Colgan below; cleared the gates quickly before steadying to third and she ran through the line in encouraging fashion for third.

Heat 3 Open 1000 metres (3 ½ lengths, ½ length 58.8)
Thy (5 m O'Reilly - Star Affair) - Vinnie Colgan below; was easy off a wide gate and stood the leader seven lengths at the 600 metres. Making her run widest on the track in the straight, she unwound nicely and looked good late in the piece to grab third.

Heat 6 2YO 800 metres (head, ¾ lengths 49.2)
2 c Murtajill - Silent Smytzer - Danielle Johnson below; began well to secure a handy spot on the inner. He received a dream rails run on straightening to level with the leader and worked home very well under minimal urging to hit the line in sync with the winner.

Scandinavian (2 g Dylan Thomas - Blanche Amelia) - Matt Cameron below; worked forward from the outside gate to post wide in fifth and finding a good kick in the straight he sustained a top effort for third.

Heat 7 2YO 800 metres (½ a length, ½ a length 49.5)
2 f King's Chapel - Sea Rhythm - Matt Cameron below; began well from barrier one to secure a perfect trail. She peeled out to challenge at will in the straight and closed solidly for third.

Heat 8 2YO 800 metres (3 ¼ lengths, ½ a length 47.9)
2 g Iffraaj - Kamahi - Matt Cameron below; found a nice spot in fifth from a wide gate and while finding the sprint trip too short he held his position through the straight to finish fifth.

Heat 9 2YO 800 metres (½ a length, 3 lengths 47.9)
2 f Minstrel Court - La Conga - Alex Forbes; missed the start, becoming detached by six lengths from the second last horse at the 600 metres. She tacked on at the 400 metres, commenced a wide run and sustained her effort, showing a good action, to finish fourth.

Heat 10 2YO 800 metres (¾ lengths, ½ a length 49.6)
Our Drahma Queen (2 f Darci Brahma - Queen Cha Cha) - Alex Forbes below; began well to travel comfortably outside the leader, displaying a nice head carriage, and quickened up when asked in the straight to finish second.

Heat 11 2YO 800 metres (1 ¼ lengths, ½ a length 48.5)
2 g Mastercraftsman - Velvet and Satin - Danielle Johnson; found a nice spot in fourth, tracked into contention with a good turn of foot to the 200 metres and rounded off strongly for second.

Rock ‘N' Sox (2 f Road to Rock - Pteridophyte) - Alex Forbes below; was out paced over the sprint trip but rolled on nicely past the line.

Heat 15 2YO 1000 metres (¾ lengths, 2 ½ lengths 1:01.6)
2 g Stratum - Lazaan - Danielle Johnson below; was given a lovely ride in the trail and once balanced up in the straight he let down and displayed good stretch for a very tidy win.

Light Source (2 f Iffraaj - Shadow Ray) - Rory Hutchings below; ranged wide on straightening after receiving a nice trip in fourth and although looking for more ground she worked home nicely for fourth.

Heat 16 2YO 1000 metres (1 ½ lengths, ¾ lengths 1:00.6)
2 f Minstrel Court - Palais Jamai - Danielle Johnson below; settled three back on the inner, tracked up off the rail approaching the home turn and clear to challenge in centre track at the 250 metres she finished off strongly for second in a professional performance.

Heat 17 2YO 1000 metres (long neck, long neck 1:00.7)
2 g Tale of the Cat - Quatro - Reece Jones; began well to race in the centre of a line of three on the pace and showed good determination and all-round attributes in sustaining a strong run for second.

Heat 18 Maiden 1000 metres (¾ lengths, neck 1:00.6)
Davey Crockett (4 g Scardee Cat - Avgenia) - Danielle Johnson; posted wide in fifth before getting cover three wide from the 700 metres, he was drawn widest on straightening and sustained a big finish to win well.

Heat 19 Maiden 1000 metres (1 length, 1 length 1:00.2)
Maestro (3 g Encosta De Lago - Miss Scarlatti) - Danielle Johnson below; settled three back on the outer, making his run wide into the straight and although looking for more ground he worked home well for third.

Heat 21 Maiden 1000 metres (2 lengths, 5 lengths 1:00.6)
3 f Darci Brahma - Peta's Girl - Danielle Johnson; settled fifth of six in running, standing the leader five lengths at the 600 metres and held her position in the straight.

Heat 22 Maiden 1200 metres (2 lengths, ½ a length 1:11.8)
Flying Solo (3 g Flying Spur - Daly Charm) - Reece Jones below; was tardy to begin from an inside draw and sixth on the rail in running. He received a nice run through one off the fence at the 300 metres, quickened to lead and galloped boldly through the line to win well.
