Te Teko Trials Today
The Informant writes:

Tuesday's traditional season-opening Te Teko trial meeting is set to go ahead despite the extremely wet weather being experienced throughout the country.

The eastern Bay of Plenty region hasn't escaped, with close to 50 mls of rainfall recorded over the past week and a heavy track predicted for horses competing tomorrow, ranging from new-season two-year-olds to leading open class gallopers.

“I've just been out on the track and while it will be heavy, it's not as sodden as I've seen it,” Whakatane Racing Club president Allan Cole toldwww.theinformant.co.nz on Monday morning. “The sun is actually shining right now but there are further showers predicted.”

The trial programme opens with open and three-year-old heats over 1050 metres, followed by open 1200-metre heats and two-year-old heats over 600 and 850 metres.

“We'll have the rail at 14 metres, which will still allow for 16 or 17 metres of track as well as preserving the inside for our next set of trials later in the month,” Cole added.
