Terrific Lass Tatters
1 April, 2016
Franking her previous campaign, Tatters (3 f Tavistock - Rattle, by Stravinsky) scored second up in the Van Dyk Rotorua Rating 65 1215 metres on April Fools' Day at Rotorua. In doing so, she became Te Akau New Zealand's 71st winner for the season, maintaining the clear lead for Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards on the Trainers' Premiership.
Owned by N V Burnside, Mrs P I & P K Coleman, K W Dare, C T Grammer, O R Henderson, T C J Kearns, R A McPhee, J C Price, W J Taylor, The Lake Syndicate & Mrs S Theobald, Tatters won second up from a spell over 1200 metres on Slow8 footing at Te Rapa, last September, with Michael Coleman aboard and delivered again with the same man up.
Coleman kept his parents happy, who share in the ownership.
“We've always liked her and she's still on the way up,†said co-trainer Stephen Autridge.
Prior to spelling Tatters was tested in three-year-old filly company, resulting with a solid sixth in the $50,000 Soliloquy Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Ellerslie.
“There is no black type left for her, really, but she's good enough to get some next year,†said Autridge.
Tenacious in her racing attitude, and appreciative of the Slow7 footing, Tatters travelled well outside the leader, took a narrow advantage on straightening and stuck to her guns in victory.
Backed into favouritism she closed on the tote at $3.00 & $1.80, running the 1215 metres in 1:13.0 (last 600m in 35.7).
Bred by Dowager Duchess of Bedford and Anne-Marie King, Tatters is strongly inbred to champion sire Sadler's Wells (Northern Dancer) and a bargain buy from the draft of Brighthill Farm.
Milou Grylls was the strapper of Tatters.
