The Breeding Boys
8 September, 2013
David writes - the breeding season is well and truly underway in New Zealand and this season, five horses that I have purchased and that Mark or Jason have trained are standing at stud and all of them have been serving well this week - they are:
Darci Brahma - standing at $40,000
Rock 'n' Pop - standing at $12,000
Burgundy - standing at $7,000
Saperavi - standing at $3,000
Minstrel Court - standing at $3,000
Te Akau's goal is to increase this number in the years ahead and Jason certainly has some quality colts in work that we hope to have standing at stud in the years ahead.
Isn't Darci Brahma an amazing sire? He leaves 2YOs, 3YOs, 4YOs and 5YOs. They win from 1000m to 3600m, they win on firm, soft and heavy tracks. He is great value at $40,000 and for someone like me, Darci Brahma's progeny are so easy to sell as everybody wants them. We have six mares in foal to him who are close to foaling.
This year we have 33 mares going to stud - we are heavily supporting the above stallions with some lovely mares.
On another note, congratulations to Singapore champion rider Joao Moreira - on Friday night at Kranji he had eight rides for eight wins - an unbelievable achievement. He often rides for Te Akau in Singapore and will be aboard a couple of Mark's runners tonight.
