Three Group Race Wins at Ellerslie on New Year's Day

In yet another remarkable day at "racing headquarters" - Te Akau trainer Jamie Richards and our tangerine team dominated proceedings!

Coming off a Boxing Day Bonanza where Te Akau won six of the 10 races on the card - including the Group 2 Jamieson Park Eight Carat Classic, the Listed Shaw's Wire Ropes Uncle Remus Stakes and the Listed Hallmark Stud Handicap - the team stepped up the ante on the second and final day of the Auckland Racing Club's Christmas Carnival.

On New Year's Day, Te Akau won the Group 1 Sistema Railway Handicap with Avantage (her fifth career Group 1 victory), the Group 2 Barneswood Farm Eclipse Stakes with Imperatriz at just her second start and the Group 3 SkyCity City of Auckland Cup with the previously very unlucky Savy Yong Blonk.

That means that Jamie Richards and the Te Akau team won nine of the 20 races across the two days - almost making a 50% strike rate as Secret Amour had to settle for second i9n the final race by the narrowest of margins.

Included in that unprecedented tally of nine wins - an incredible six of these victories over the two days were at stakes' level (with a number of very creditable placings in these events too) ...

Group 1 System Railway Handicap - 1st
Group 2 Jamieson Park Eight Carat Classic - 1st
Group 2 Barneswood Farm Eclipse Stakes - 1st, 3rd & 4th
Group 3 SkyCity City of Auckland Cup - 1st & 4th
Listed Shaw's Wire Ropes Uncle Remus Stakes - 1st
Listed Hallmark Stud Handicap - 1st

As well as In A Twinkling's 3rd place in the Group 1 Zabeel Classic.

Proud is an understatement - well done and congratulations to our loyal owners, brilliant team, talented riders and our wonderful horses!

With a further win on 2 January with Burgundy Rose, that takes the season tally to 85 - a lead of 50 wins over the next stable!
