Tiffany in Time

Despite downgrading track conditions, Tiffany's Time (4 m Alamosa - Tinsel Time, by More Than Ready) justified her favouritism with a strong victory in the $22,500 Plough Hotel Rating 65 1400 metres on Saturday 7 October at Riccarton.

A Maiden winner over 1400 metres in October last year at Ruakaka, Tiffany's Time had the benefit of two trials before resuming off 211 days in September at Riccarton, with a solid performance for third, and took the extra step to win with aplomb.

Given a patient ride by Michael McNab, Tiffany's Time was positioned in ninth of the eleven runners passing the 800m, tracked up widest to the 400m and after taking awhile to balance in the Slow8 conditions she finally asserted her superiority and was big late in the piece to win very well.

Closing at a quite bankable $4.00 & $1.80 on the tote, Tiffany's Time ran the 1400 metres in 1:27.2.
Consistent in four starts before winning her Maiden, she was bred by Greg Tomlinson (Nearco Stud) and offered by Bradbury Park at the 2015 NZB Select Yearling Sale where David Ellis bought her for $55,000.

“What a great job the team down south are doing,” Ellis said. “Jamie (Richards) went down on Monday night and watched them all gallop on Tuesday and he said that we'd have a good day on Saturday, and with four wins, and one beaten by a whisker, he was dead right.

“It's the first time Dan (Miller) has taken horses away, like this, on his own and it will be a huge confidence builder for him and the horses are going super. He is down there with his partner Tegan Newman and I'm thrilled with the job they are both doing.

“We have had a great run buying horses carrying the Nearco Stud brand (NS), including the Burgundy filly Nucleonic.

“I was thrilled for Michael (McNab) to get a couple of winners for us on the programme. He's had a really tough week, with his mother passing away, so getting a couple of wins in the tangerine will be an ideal tonic for him and he is riding the horses really well.”

“It was a pretty impressive win, wasn't it?” Ellis said. “I think she is the sort of filly that could go on and get black type during the carnival.

“And, well done to Steve (Autridge) and Jamie (Richards), because if you win four races everyday you went to work you'd have to be pretty happy. They've trained ten winners in just over two weeks, so they're going very well.”

Jamie Richards said: “It was a very good win. We'd been happy with the mare and she had been working up well with Age of Fire. She has certainly appreciated the smaller environment at the training centre in the South Island.

“Michael (McNab) elected to ride her cold, which we think, probably, is now the way to ride her and she attacked the line very strongly.

“We couldn't be happier with how she is going and with regards to the track, she had been a month between races and she needed to race whether the ground was good, dead, or slow, and we are glad she's got the job done and can now work her way through the rating bands towards cup week when there's a bit of money up.”

Tiffany's Time was strapped by Meg Lambert.
