Time Flies Flew

Given a perfect ride by Jason Laking, Time Fliesv(3 g Time Test - Rorippa, by Towkay) won the $15,000 Remembering Toby Autridge Maiden 1050 metres on Saturday at Matamata.

Time Flies ended his two-year-old campaign finishing fourth to stable-mate Dynastic (Almanzor) in the Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m), and won third-up in his current preparation.

Rated a top three chance from barrier one, Time Flies settled fifth inner, four lengths 600m, and received a dream run through along the rail to win comfortably.

“He's a nice horse, got every chance and he was up to the task and good through the line,” Laking said.

On Soft5 footing, Time Flies ran 1050 metres in 1:02.5, last 600m in 35, and paid $5.40 & $1.90 on the NZ TAB tote.

“Jason gave him every possible opportunity, held him up nicely because he's only got a short sprint and it's a well deserved win by a horse that showed plenty last season,” said trainer Mark Walker.

“We took the blinkers off and I think he's best ridden a bit colder and that's helped him. He's got some ability and we'll keep him to sprints.”

In the colours of Chris Rutten, carried by former stable-mate Yourdeel (Dundeel), a dual Group One winner and Champion Two-Year-Old, Time Flies was bred by Sam Williams (Little Avondale Stud) and Rachel Savory, and owned in conjunction by Rutten and Williams.

Time Flies is from the first crop of LA Stud resident sire Time Test (Dubawi), who recorded three stakes wins among 12 victories in Europe, out of Rorippa (Towkay), a three-time winner at 1200 metres.

Presenting on behalf of the club, director Dennis Ryan said: “Congratulations to Chris Rutten and Sam & Catriona Williams at Little Avondale.

“It was a good idea bringing Jason Laking up from the Te Akau base at Riccarton, and he's got a strong book of rides.

“We are remembering Toby (Autridge), of course, and back in June we had a farewell for him here at the racecourse. He is a sad loss to our community: Debbie, Bob, Steve and Mark, it's great to see you all here joining us in honouring Toby.

“Joining us from Japan, Mr. Jun Naito, who flew in for this race and whom Toby trained for over the years, is here to honour Taiki Yanagida in an event later today, and thank you also to Yuto Kumagai for everything you did for your great friend Taiki.”

Time Flies was strapped by Kohen Collett.
