Top Season

With nine and a half months of the New Zealand season completed - and winter tracks setting in - it is timely to reflect on the successful season Te Akau owners can be proud of making happen.

Our NZ trainer Jason, assistant trainer Pam, and the whole team - including Tommy, Steve, Corinna and everyone - are so focused on the well-being and care of our horses and delivering racetrack results with them for our owners. Our riders Matt Cameron and Daniel Miller also are major contributors, together with all our trackwork riding team including Kate Hercock.

We love winning races for our owners and while not every horse will win - we always dedicate ourselves firmly to that goal and to bringing out the very best in every single one of our horses.  They are all individuals with different personalities, needs, talents and quirks - and we believe in knowing them for the character each one is.

Jason has led the Trainers' Premiership for most of this season and has trained 63 winners - seven at Group or Listed level - we are particularly proud of his superb strike rate that has been maintained all season - this underlines the fact that the right horses are in the right races.

However with the onslaught of heavy tracks we will not have many horses remaining in work over the winter, only those who relish that time of the year! We take the opportunity to see our Spring horses spell in preparation for their new season commitments.  Of course it is also a very important time to continue the education of of our yearlings.

Premierships are based on performances during each racing season (August 1st - July 31st). The jockey and trainer with the most wins at the end of the season are the Premiership winners. These statistics are updated daily.
