Top Te Teko Trial Results

Te Akau horses stepped out on Tuesday in the first major trial fixture for the new season.  A mix of highly experienced and young horses made the journey to Te Teko where the track conditions played their part and we witnessed some top rate peformances - which included trial wins by six of our equine team.

Here are some of the highlights:

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday August 6 at Te Teko. The footing was rated Dead 4, with the rail out 13-15 metres.

Heat 2 Open 1040 metres (3 1/2 lengths, 2 lengths 1:01.14)

Alert (4g Zabeel - Kay's Awake) - Daniel Miller; broke well and was ridden patiently to settle third last on the rail, worked into the race on the turn and was doing his best work on the line.

Heat 3 Open 1040 metres (1 ½ lengths, 3 lengths 1:00.62)

Gunsmoke (6g O'Reilly - The Gem) - Daniel Miller; paraded in a fresh state as is his habit after a break, had a good sweat and was on his toes. From the outside barrier he was allowed to settle back in the running while racing a bit keenly as per usual. From there he stuck to the task well in the run to the line, not taking any ground off the leaders but a nice effort.

Heat 4 Open 1040 metres (neck, head 1:01.95)

Imperial Miss (5m Shinko King - Nanset) - Daniel Miller; jumped away well and sat fourth in the running, two lengths off the leaders, she rounded the effort off nicely on straightening to finish second under her own steam.

Heat 5 3YO 1040 metres (nose, 1 length 1:02.22)

Ruthless Lady (3f Keeper - Lady Dehere) - Kelly Myers; jumped away well and settled midfield before finishing nicely wide on the track under her own steam. She finished third without being put under any pressure.

Heat 8 2YO 620 metres (neck, 4 lengths 35.81)

Realize (2c Redoute's Choice - Rationalize) - Reese Jones; jumped away a bit tardy and settled midfield of seven runners. The first two horses took clear advantage on straightening and he was in a race for third. Pressed against the rail by a runner on his outside he ran on gamely for fifth.

Heat 11 MDN3YO 800 metres (1/2 head, head 46.63)

Rise ‘N' Shine (3g Zabeel - Kay's Awake) - Kelly Myers; settled fourth on the rail three lengths off the leaders then worked between runners coming out of the turn and once in the clear, really found the line strongly to just miss winning by a short head.

Heat 12 MDN3YO 800 metres (1 length, 1 ¼ lengths 47.24)

Sebrose (3cSebring - Bramble Rose) - Kelly Myers; broke well from the outside gate, settled fourth on the outer three lengths off the leader. He was caught wide but stuck on well to finish fourth.

Heat 14 MDN3YO 800 metres (3/4 lengths, 2 ½ lengths 46.89)

Spellbinder (3f O'Reilly -Scenic Sprint) - Kelly Myers; won her third trial today in impressive fashion. She jumped away well and settled nicely in third one off the fence, then kicked easily in the straight to win convincingly.

3f More Than Ready - Insouciant - Jason Waddell; was allowed to find her feet early and settle midfield in sixth position, one off the rail. She tracked the eventual winner comfortably and held her position to finish midfield, doing her best work after the line.

Heat 15 MDN3YO 800 metres (head, 1 ½ lengths 46.41)

Alchemy's Flight (3f Darci Brahma - Eloa) - Kelly Myers; jumped away nicely and sat in third, one out and one back. She showed good ability when she gapped the rest of the field at the 300m quickly and went on to win the trial in good style.

Wolfwhistle (3c O'Reilly - Legs) - Jason Waddell; relaxed early in the running in his trial, settled fifth on the outer before running on strongly from the 200m mark, quickening up nicely to nearly pick up the leader who had a good four length lead. He finished second, beaten a head.

Heat 16 MDN3YO 800 metres (head, 2 ½ lengths 46.51)

Aspen (3c Alamosa - Kirin Belle) - Jason Waddell; was allowed to find his feet and settled midfield in the running. He travelled off the bridle in that position and then ran on nicely to finish fourth, doing his best work at the line.

Heat 17 MDN3YO 800 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 1 ¼ lengths 46.91)

Chambord (3g Zabeel - Miss Montjeu) - Kelly Myers; settled back last, relaxing nicely from the outside gate. He then unleashed a terrific turn of foot to take himself from last to first inside 200m with little urging before running clear of the rest of the field.

Heat 18 MDN3YO 800 metres (6 lengths, 2 lengths 46.02)

Costa Viva (3f Encosta De Lago - Vivacious Spirit) - Daniel Miller; was allowed to settle fourth in the running behind the speed from the inside gate. The horses in front of her rolled off the fence coming into the straight, allowing her an inside run and within the twinkle of an eye, she opened up a significant lead. She was never put into top gear and won untested in the fastest time of the day by 6 lengths (pictured).

Heat 19 MDN3YO 800 metres (1/2 head, 4 lengths 47.11)

Flirty Gertey (3f Thorn Park - Granma Gertey) - Craig Grylls; was allowed to find her feet from the inside gate, settled behind the speed and travelled well. She straightened up and hit the lead with 300m to run, she then finished second under her own steam without being put under pressure, beaten ½ head.

Heat 20 MDN3YO 800 metres (head, 1 ½ lengths 47.47)

Hardcore Rock (3c Fastnet Rock - River Dreaming) - Rory Hutchings; jumped well and raced a bit keenly in fourth position, one off the rail in the running. He then took a narrow split between horses and quickened up the last 100m to win the trial nicely.

Heat 21 MDN3YO 800 metres (head, 1 ½ lengths 46.53)

King's Rock (3c Fastnet Rock - Nureyev's Girl) - Jason Waddell; began well and settled midfield behind the speed. He kept up a good gallop to finish fourth, doing his best work at the line.
