Torcedor Sale Confirmed
Te Akau principal David Ellis has today confirmed that Torcedor, the talented Irish-based staying son of Fastnet Rock, has been sold.

Torcedor, a rising 7YO, was purchased by David Ellis at the Deauville Sale for 70,000 euro (approx. NZ$115,000) and is raced by Sir Peter Vela, Sir Patrick Hogan, Mohammed Moussa and Laurie Laxon.

He has raced 20 times in the Te Akau tangerine for five career wins and eight placings, including two victories at Group 3 level, one over Order of St George.

He has recorded three Group 1 placings this past year, including a gutsy third placing in the Group 1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June and a bold second to his Gold Cup nemesis Stradivarius in the Group 1 Goodwood Cup last start.

Managed by David Ellis, he has earned 626,120 euro for his connections - around NZ$1.08 million.

The NZ Racing Desk reports:

Te Akau principal David Ellis has revealed that their European Group One performer Torcedor has been sold to German interests.

“In the last few days we sold Torcedor, we received an emormous offer for a six-year-old gelding,” Ellis said. “He has been sold and the deal has been completed.

“We wish the new owners well with him - they are a consortium syndicate based in Germany. I'd say they would look at the Melbourne Cup for sure.

“He is quite an exciting horse, he goes to the front, he never stops trying and is a very gutsy horse.”

By Fastnet Rock out of a sister to champion stayer Yeats, dual Group Three winner Torcedor has been Group One placed in the Goodwood Cup, Ascot Gold Cup and Irish St Leger.

Purchased by Ellis for 70,000 euro at the 2013 Deauville yearling sales in France, Torcedor was owned by Sir Patrick Hogan, Sir Peter Vela, Mohammed Moussa and Laurie Laxon.
