Town on Top
28 September, 2014
Friday night racing at Kranji kicked off well for Te Akau Singapore trainer Mark Walker.
Lining up the New Zealand bred Top of the Town in the first race on the card, the 5YO by Strategic Image was very impressive when saluting the judge for the first time in his career. A win looked close after solid place form of two second and two third placings from his previous seven starts.
In the maiden 1400m on the long course B turf track and ridden by top Australian jockey Corey Brown (who later boarded a plane to ride in Australia), he flew the gates. Dictating terms the entire race, he never relinquished the lead and was a comfortable two length winner.
Top of the Town is raced by stable clients Toast Trusts and Daniel Manson Stables. In his eight starts he has earned $38,902 in stakes and looks to have more where this win came from!
This win was Mark's 37th for the season - with 46 second and 42 third placings, he lies eighth on the Trainers' Premiership. Corey Brown finished Friday racing with 51 wins for the season placing him second on the Jockeys' Premiership - with the leading rider Manny Nunes well ahead on 94 wins with about three months of the season remaining.
