Trans-Tasman Group Winner Entriviere Retired
29 August, 2022
Outstanding Group 1 winning mare Entriviere has been retired.
Te Akau Principal David Ellis CNZM, who purchased the daughter of Tavistock, has announced this evening that due to injury, the six-year-old stable star has been retired from racing immediately.
"We had not been entirely happy with Entriviere following her resuming run and a nuclear bone scan has revealed fetlock issues that would see her side-lined from racing for some time. Even with this approach, there would be an element of risk with a return to racing and that is untenable to Te Akau and to her owners - her well-being is our No.1 priority ," Ellis said today.
"After Karyn (Fenton-Ellis MNZM) syndicated her, Entriviere won her first two starts. I clearly remember when she burst on to the scene on Karaka Million night in the Concorde. She really announced her arrival in style and what an impact she has made in the 19 months since - her owners just love her, they've had a terrific journey with her."
The four-time Group winner had a remarkable 2021/22 season ... the winner of the Group 1 Railway Handicap at Ellerslie and Group 2 Sheraco Stakes in Sydney, she was also runner up in the Group 1 BCD Sprint at Te Rapa and third in the Group 2 Golden Pendant in Sydney. She posted huge sectionals when third (from a wide gate) in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane and was a very unlucky fourth in the inaugural A$2 million The Invitation in Sydney.
This trans-Tasman success at the elite level culminated in Entriviere being named as a finalist in the Champion Sprinter/Miler category at the NZ Horse of the Year Awards to be staged this weekend.
Her previous black type credentials came with wins in both the Group 3 Concorde Handicap and Group 3 Haunui Farm King's Plate at Ellerslie, and she was runner up (beaten a whisker) in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes in Sydney.
In total Entriviere won seven of her 16 starts, placing on seven other occasions, amassing $725,117.
"Entriviere will be offered for sale through Gavelhouse Plus. She is a very valuable mare, the winner of Group races on both sides of the Tasman, and I am certain she will be a highly attractive and sought after broodmare proposition. With the southern breeding season due to commence on 1 September, we expect a high degree of interest from international breeders and studs," Ellis said.
What an incredible journey we have had with our spirited and courageous lass - we reflect this evening on her career of just a tad under two magnificent years:
We offered shares in Gypsy in early September 2020 - she won on debut on 23 September 2020 and went back to back, winning her second start on 20 October 2020.
From there it was a glorious 23 months ...
1st - Group 3 Concorde Handicap at Ellerslie on Karaka Million night 2021
1st - Group 3 Haunui Farm King's Plate during Auckland Cup Week in March 2021
2nd - Group 2 Sapphire Stakes in Sydney in April 2021, beaten a whisker
.... then last season ...
1st - Group 2 Sheraco Stakes in Sydney in September 2021
3rd - Group 2 Golden Pendant in Sydney in September 2021
4th - inaugural A$2 million The Invitation in Sydney in October 2021
1st - Group 1 Railway Handicap at Ellerslie on New Year's Day 2022
2nd - Group 1 BCD Sprint at Te Rapa in February 2022
3rd - Group 1 Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane in May 2022
In all, Entriviere raced 16 times, recording 7 wins, 3 seconds, two thirds, a fourth and a fifth placing, only twice unplaced. In her glittering career she earned $725,117.
