Trial Report: Bivouac colt a 9l winner at Te Awamutu
31 October, 2024
Te Akau Racing unleashed four quality juveniles at the Tuesday morning trials, headed by a impressive speedster by Darley's Bivouac. Elsewhere, a sister to G3 Gimcrack S. victress Bel Merci (Extreme Choice) powered home, and an expensive purchase signalled big things for the remainder of spring.
Son of Bivouac shows stunning turn of foot at Te Awamutu
A son of Darley resident and triple Group 1 winner Bivouac, Carsolio left his trial rivals practically in the barriers in a 850-metre juvenile trial at Te Awamutu on Tuesday, where the 2-year-old colt won by a decisive 9l. The Te Akau Racing trainee was having his first public trial for Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson. He also posted the fastest juvenile time of the morning, running home in 50.56s.
"(He's a) lovely colt who has continued to improve the more we have done with him," said Bergerson. "He showed good gate speed and managed to quicken nicely off a genuine tempo at his first trial, so it's all ahead of him."
Bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds, Carsolio was offered by Segenhoe Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, where David Ellis CNZM (BANZ) paid $350,000 for him. He is the second foal of Whitehaven (Pierro), from the close family of Champion 2YO Colt and sire Vancouver, and G1 Robert Sangster S. winner Juste Momente (Giant’s Causeway). Whitehaven missed to Wootton Bassett last year before returning to Bivouac.
Snitzel pair double up for Te Akau Racing
Two sons of four-time Champion Sire Snitzel, and stablemates of Carsolio, also won their respective juvenile trials in comfortable fashion at Te Awamutu on Tuesday morning. Te Akau Racing split Return To Conquer and He Who Dares (NZ) between heats, where they won by 2.5l and 0.2l respectively. The pair had clashed in a trial before, where Return To Conquer emerged the victor, and He Who Dares ran third 3.25l behind him.
Breeder Haunai Farm offered He Who Dares at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, where David Ellis purchased him for $825,000, as the third top priced lot of the sale. He is the first foal from G1 Sydney Cup runner-up Rondinella (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}), three-quarter-sister to G3 La Trice Classic winner Celebrity Dream (NZ) (Thorn Park), and half-sister to G2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic victress Vavasour (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice) and G2 Autumn Classic winner Vilanova (NZ) (Commands). Rondinella foaled a filly by Savabeel last spring, and was not served again.
Blue Gum Farm offered Return To Conquer at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, on behalf of breeder M Howard, where the Te Akau proprietor went to $1,300,000 to secure him. He is out of the unraced mare Vaujany (Lonhro), a daughter of multiple stakes winner Portillo (Red Ransom {USA}) and a full sister to G2 Surround S. Ghisoni, dam of Listed Creswick S. Renosu (Exceed And Excel). Vaujany passed away in February, leaving Return To Conquer as her last foal.
Super Seth filly completes productive morning for Te Akau
La Dorada (NZ) (Super Seth) handed the Te Akau Racing team a quartet of juvenile trial wins on Tuesday morning, when the 2-year-old filly beat Romanoff (NZ) (Belardo {Ire}) by 0.25l to win her heat. She posted the second fastest juvenile time of the morning, just 0.11s behind Carsolio’s run.
La Dorada is a daughter of G2 Matamata Breeders' S. winner Gold Fever (NZ) (Savabeel), who is a three-quarter-sister to G1 Australian Derby winner Major Beel (NZ) (Savabeel) and a half-sister to Calaverite (Lonhro), dam of G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Golden Mile, who retired to stud duties this season for Godolphin. David Ellis paid $190,000 for her at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, where she was offered by breeder Waikato Stud. Super Seth was the Leading First Season Sire in NZ last season, bolstered by the exploits of his G3 Baillieu H.-winning son Linebacker.
