Update on Matt

Te Akau stable jockey Matt Cameron has elected to take a short break from the saddle in order for a knee injury to heel.

Cameron sustained a kick during the trials meeting on Feb. 25 at Matamata, and despite having ridden two winners through the recently completed Auckland Cup Carnival at Ellerslie, including Auckland Cup (Gr. 1, 3200m) winner Whoshotthebarman (Yamanin Vital), he will forgo his rides this Wednesday 12 March at Matamata.

Te Akau has five horses entered for the meeting and Hayden Tinsley will ride three, Vinny Colgan one and a replacement to be advised for one other.

“He (Cameron) will not be riding in the interim, for at least this week,” said Te Akau trainer Jason Bridgman. “With a promising team in on Wednesday, we have called upon the services of Hayden Tinsley. We are only too pleased that Hayden could step in under such circumstances and he is a rider of the highest calibre.

“Although he is used only sparingly because of weight, fortunately we have three horses that fitted the bill and he will come up from the Central Districts to help out this week. He will ride promising debutantes Maestro (Encosta De Lago) and La Adelita (High Chaparral) and promising two-year-colt Rockfast (Fastnet Rock), who finished second in Matamata Slipper (Listed, 1200m) last time out.

Cameron notched his 100th win for the season aboard Who Shot Thebarman in the Auckland Cup and having been runner-up in the Jockey Premiership for the past two seasons he leads at present, with a buffer of seven wins over Mark Du Plessis.
