Racing.com reports:

Mark Walker touched down in Australia to see stable star Imperatriz go through her final paces at The Valley on Tuesday morning but admits it's been a 'juggling act' keeping the freshness in her legs for the 1000 metres of Friday's Moir Stakes.

The five-time Group 1 winner had never been seen below 1100m before attempting the McEwen Stakes first-up, when she showed a dazzling turn of speed.

"It's just been a balancing act trying to keep her fresh enough to go another 1000 metres, but Ben's (Gleeson) been happy with her the whole way through and I thought her work was good," Walker explained.

"In a perfect world you'd be going 1100 if not 1200 metres, so we'll just have to see Friday night if she is fresh enough.

"She's actually a Group 1 winner over a mile at home in New Zealand but I think her pet distance is 1200 if not 1400 metres.

"As I say, it's a bit of a juggling act trying to go 1000 metres again."

Walker said the Te Akau Racing team has not been tempted despite the withdrawal of Giga Kick from The Everest to alter their plans, which include the Manikato Stakes and Champions Sprint, given how happily the mare has settled into Cranbourne.

She worked with stablemate Zourion over 800m, quickening up the last section and will have the synthetic hoof filler off as a gear change this weekend. Walker said it had been used a precaution to not shift a plate upon her arrival and was not of concern.

Imperatriz is unbeaten in two starts at The Valley.

"I think the pressure goes on a long way from home and sometimes she will hit a little flat spot but then she really picks up underneath the rider and then she's just got a devastating turn of foot," Walker said.

"She just suits getting around the camber as well."

Opie Bosson will regain the ride with Imperatriz a $1.90 chance with Sportsbet for the Moir Stakes on Friday night.
