Well done Poverty Bay

I was so pleased to see the racing on Sunday at Poverty Bay and Te Akau was pleased to send a team of horses to support the Club.
About two months ago, Butch (Andrew) Castles told me he needed some Te Akau horses at the Gisborne and Wairoa races. Butch is the CEO of Hawkes Bay Racing, and is a world class racing administrator. So, we sent four horses down on Saturday that raced on Sunday. And we have more travelling to Wairoa tomorrow.
On Sunday the Club presented a beautiful track that suited all horses. They had over 3,000 people at the venue, with plenty of children in attendance. What a great way to spend a day out with the family. We had four runners, who have now travelled to Wairoa, about one and half hours' drive south. Another four of our horses will also be travelling south today, to race at the two day meeting.
Between these two racecourses, I understand that there is over $50,000 in sponsorship, and some administrators are talking closure. How sad is that!?
I know I have said it before, but it really is a big thrill to see Jamie in front of the Trainers' Premiership. What an outstanding effort it is from both himself and Mark, who is also leading in Singapore. It really is a team effort; our whole all works so tirelessly to make this happen. I could not be more proud of them all - Matamata, the Stud and Singapore.
