One of the standout colts from Te Akau Racing’s Karaka 2026 purchases is Lot 267, a striking brown colt by Super Seth out of the Savabeel mare American Actress.

Purchased for $325,000 from leading thoroughbred nursery Waikato Stud, this colt represents a rare opportunity to secure a share in a beautifully bred individual by a stallion whose profile continues to surge.

Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM purchased this colt as he did reigning Champion 2YO of the Year, Karaka Millions 2YO, Group 1 Manawatu Sires' Produce and Group 2 Levin Classic winner La Dorada - one of four individual Group 1 winners for the sensational young sire.

Super Seth made a tremendous impact as a racehorse, most notably when coming from seemingly nowhere to defeat race favourite Alligator Blood in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas over 1600m. A son of six-time Group 1 winner Dundeel, by sire of sires High Chaparral, he descends from one of the most influential modern sire lines. High Chaparral’s sons include Dundeel, So You Think, Toronado, Contributer, Ace High, Redwood and Tivaci - all sires of Group 1 winners.

With his oldest crop now four-year-olds, Super Seth has already been crowned Champion First and Second Season Sire and Champion 2YO Sire, producing 68 individual winners and eight stakes' winners. His Group 1 performers include Group 1 Randwick Guineas winner Linebacker, Group 1 Queensland Derby winner Maison Louis, Group 1 Australian Guineas winner Feroce, and Te Akau’s own La Dorada.

Importantly, Lot 267 is bred on the proven Super Seth / Savabeel cross - the same cross as La Dorada. The dam, American Actress, is a sister to The Real Beel, a blue-blood filly purchased by David Ellis as a yearling, who won on debut at two before later capturing the Group 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes (1600m).

The family is steeped in class. It includes Champion Three-Year-Old, Cox Plate winner and Australian Horse of the Year Octagonal, influential stallion Kaapstad, and outstanding Group 1 sprinter Diamond Lover. His fourth dam Marquise was herself a nine-time winner, reinforcing the depth and durability throughout the pedigree.

The colt also carries valuable crosses to Zabeel, the highest stakes'-producing stallion in New Zealand history, and the legendary Champion Sire Danehill - combining elite New Zealand stamina influence with global speed and class.

Commenting on the purchase, David Ellis said the cross and physical type were key factors.

“We know the Super Seth / Savabeel cross works, having bought La Dorada as a yearling, and also her mother Gold Fever, and there is no doubt that it will be a heralded mating in the future,” Ellis said.

“Super Seth showed great acceleration as a racehorse himself, and we’re seeing that in his offspring. He also puts great strength into his progeny.

“He really is an eye-catching type of colt, with plenty of range and scope, and he’s a classic example of this fantastic family.

“They’re world-class breeders at Waikato Stud, there were a lot of good judges on him, and we were thrilled to get him.”
