Yearling Spotlight: Lot 929 Lucky Vega (IRE) - Twisted Reality (GB) Filly

Introducing Lot 929 Lucky Vega (IRE) – Twisted Reality (GB) Filly - Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale 2026 | $270,000

When a young stallion combines elite European pedigree, precocious speed, and early racetrack success through his first crops, the industry pays attention.

That’s exactly the trajectory Lucky Vega is on.

A Group One-winning two-year-old in Europe, Lucky Vega has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting young stallions standing in Australasia. By the outstanding Lope de Vega, himself a dual Classic winner of the French 2000 Guineas and French Derby, Lucky Vega represents one of the most powerful international sire lines operating in the modern thoroughbred.

And now Te Akau has secured a filly by him.

One of the standout fillies purchased at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale is Lot 929, a beautifully bred bay filly by Lucky Vega out of the Fastnet Rock mare Twisted Reality.

Purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $270,000 from the outstanding draft of Yulong Stud, she represents an exciting opportunity to become involved in a filly bred on one of the most desirable international bloodlines in the thoroughbred world.

Lucky Vega was a high-class racehorse himself, winning the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at two and placing twice at Group One level in Europe. Renowned for his athleticism and intelligence, he has already begun producing high-quality juveniles, including Within The Law, a stakes-winning two-year-old who captured the Listed Inglis 2YO and Nursery Stakes before stepping up to win the Group 2 Embrace Stakes at Randwick.

Importantly, Lot 929 is out of a mare by Fastnet Rock, the reigning Champion Australian Broodmare Sire and one of the most influential stallions of the modern era. Fastnet Rock has already produced over 150 stakes winners as a broodmare sire, and his daughters continue to leave elite performers across Australia, New Zealand and internationally.

The dam, Twisted Reality, was herself a winner at two in England over 1600 metres and comes from a deep international female family. She is a half-sister to multiple winners including Saint George, who was placed at Group and Listed level.

The pedigree strength runs deep.

The granddam Lady Dragon is by the legendary Galileo, the 12-time Champion Sire whose influence on global breeding is unparalleled, while the third dam Spinola produced Champion Three-Year-Old Filly Dorcia, a multiple stakes winner.

This is also Twisted Reality’s first foal, giving owners the rare opportunity to be involved with the foundation runner from a high-class young mare with enormous upside.

Commenting on the purchase, David Ellis CNZM said the filly immediately stood out on type.

“She’s a beautiful loose-walking filly, very typical of the breed, by a really exciting young sire and with a dam line featuring some of the best blood in the world,” Ellis said.

“Fastnet Rock is a sire that Te Akau has enjoyed a lot of success with, and he’s proving equally powerful as a broodmare sire with over 150 stakes winners.

“She has the looks of furnishing into a really outstanding physical specimen. She has a faultless temperament, behaved beautifully on the sale grounds and in the ring, and she carries a lot of quality.

“The pedigree also suggests she has the natural precocity to race as a two-year-old, while also having the scope to train on as she matures.”

Born 6 September 2024, this filly combines elite European bloodlines, speed influence, and a world-class female family, making her a very exciting addition to the Te Akau Racing stable.
