Not only is he dark and handsome —he’s bred to absolutely set pulses racing.

This colt hails from a family Te Akau knows exceptionally well, tracing directly back to the magnificent Seamist — winner of 12 races including the Auckland Stakes (Gr. 1, 2000m), Japan/NZ Trophy (Gr. 2, 1600m), two Group Three victories, six Listed wins and multiple stakes placings. As a broodmare, Seamist produced seven individual winners of 32 races — serious depth and durability in the pedigree.

David Ellis purchased dam Spritz as a Karaka yearling, alongside stakes-performed and producing members of this very same family including Miss Thorn, Aotea Lad and Corsage — horses that showed quality at two and trained on to compete at the highest level.

Corsage herself placed in the Diamond Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) and Matamata Breeders’ Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m), was an unlucky fifth in the Karaka Million, and later placed in both the Ray Coupland Stakes and Sunline Vase, finishing fourth in the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m).
