Zavistic Zooms Home
1 February, 2018
Cameron Lammas gave winner Lady Painton (Tavistock) a beautiful trip on Monday at Te Teko, and his judgement in the saddle remained first-class aboard Zavistic (4 g Zacinto - Miss Avalon, by Fantastic Light) on Thursday 1 February at Hastings.
Cruising along outside the leader, Lammas had favourite Saignon (Duelled) to his inner and pocketed throughout. With a turn of foot at the 200m, Zavistic was able to establish a winning break and he looked good under hands and heels at the line.
“In the words of commentator Tony Lee: “It was C. Lammas at his best, hereâ€.
Having trialled well in a strong field on 16 January at Te Aroha, Zavistic resumed off 111 days in the $10,000 Awesum Organics Rating 65 1200 metres, having cleared Maidens at his previous start on 13 October at Timaru.
A very consistent galloper that recorded four thirds in as many starts as a two-year-old, he was purchased for $100,000 by Te Akau principal David Ellis, from the draft of Valachi Downs, at the 2015 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale.
“He's a horse we bought from one of the best nurseries (Valachi) in New Zealand, and from a very good family,†Ellis said.
“He was a late foal, just needed time and it's great to see the owners being rewarded for their patience.
“It was another top ride by Cameron Lammas. He's a thorough horseman and a real asset to our stable. You'd struggle to find a better rider at educating young horses. He rides a heap of track work for us and deserves all his successes on race day.â€
Zavistic has now recorded two wins, a second, and five thirds, from nine starts for the Te Akau Zavistic Syndicate. On Good3 footing, he covered the 1200 metres in 1:11.3 and $3.90 & $1.90 was his best return on the NZ TAB tote.
By the sire of 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Ugo Foscolo (Zacinto), Zavistic is a half-brother to group one winner and Champion Two-Year-Old Vespa (Elusive City), standing now at Wellfield Lodge.
Zavistic became the sixth winner in the past week for trainers Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards and their 46th for the season sees them second on the Trainers Premiership.
“He's always shown a little bit,†Autridge said. “He's very honest. Today, he jumped nicely, found a good spot, and kicked well. And as I said before the race, ‘he'll improve'.â€
Zavistic was strapped by Diego Steele.
