Dr Douglas Black
Douglas graduated in 1983 from Glasgow University. He spent two years in mixed practice in North Yorkshire (Herriot country) before making the move to Australia where he spent a year undertaking locum work for various equine practices. He started with Hamilton Veterinary Services in 1986 and his workload consists mainly of thoroughbred stud and stable work – including being the senior surgeon and adviser for Te Akau. In 1992, Douglas passed his membership exams for the Australian College. He is also a member of the endoscopy panel at the Karaka Yearling Sales and a trustee for the Waikato Equine Intensive Care Unit. Outside of work, Douglas enjoys travelling which suits his passion for good food and wine. He is a keen golfer and tennis player and avid rugby follower. Dr Black has been David Ellis’ veterinary surgeon since 1987. He is recognised as one of New Zealand’s finest equine veterinary surgeons.
