Te Akau Racing Manager Libby Richards, sister to trainer Jamie Richards, and daughter of stable foreman Paul Richards and racing administrator mother Leanne Richards, has been ingrained in the thoroughbred industry since childhood.
Majoring in economics and accounting, she gained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Otago University. Working in the head office of a leading bank in Auckland, she spent five years as a Product Analyst in the Commercial and Agriculture Lending Unit.
Libby grew up working in the family stables at Wingatui, Dunedin, and going to the races with her father. She continued working at the stables as a student and has a very well rounded knowledge of the racing industry.
“It’s always been in the back of my mind to work in racing and with Jamie now the sole trainer, and Dad in his role with Te Akau, now seems like a good time, and I enjoyed working with Dave (Ellis) a couple of summers ago,” Libby said.
“There are good systems in place, good staff giving their best, a high level of professionalism, and it’s exciting to be involved with owners and the running of the racing business.”
