Gold Coast Yearling Sale 2020 – Lot 129 I Am Invincible (AUS)/Berimbau (AUS) Bay Filly

Lot 129 bay or brown filly I Am Invincible – Berimbau (Shamardal) $360,000 (draft: Bhima Thoroughbreds)

Progeny by Leading Australian Sire (wins) I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), standing for $247,500, have been incredibly well sought after. His yearlings have sold for $2 million, $1.9m, $1.7m, $1.45m, and averaged over $400,000 last year.

I Am Invincible is also the sire of recent impressive winning filly Festivity, who spaced her rivals by six and a quarter lengths on debut at Taupo (Dec. 30), and has a very bright future. Owned by the Te Akau 2018 Fabulous Fillies Breeding Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM), she was purchased for $410,000 by David Ellis at the 2018 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Windsor Park Stud.

Dam sire Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) has left 24 Group One winners worldwide and stands for a private fee in Ireland. He is a sire of the highest class, having incredible success as a broodmare sire, while grand-dam sire Encosta Delago (Fairy King) is a multiple champion sire, with 26 Group One winners worldwide, and champion broodmare sire in Australia. He is regarded as one of the greatest Australian-bred sires of all time.

“She’s got a beautiful pedigree and out of a mare that won as a two-year-old,” Ellis said. “Berimbau is a high-class mare that has a Fastnet Rock filly foal at foot and in foal to Press Statement, so very commercial and being mated at the top end.

“She’s a very athletic filly that will come home to New Zealand, spell and develop at Te Akau Stud, and once on the racetrack we would like to think she could be the type to come back and contest races like the $2m Magic Millions Classic for two-year-olds, Golden Slipper and Sires’ Produce Stakes.

“She’s a very strong filly, with a lovely shoulder, a lot of strength through the gaskin and hindquarters. She’s beautifully balanced and just looks a real racehorse. And given the service fee for I Am Invincible is nearly $250,000, to buy a filly by him for $360,000 from this sort of family is a pretty good equation.”
