Lot 101 bay colt Pierro – Miss Judged (Volksraad) $75,000 (draft: Wentwood Grange)
By current leading sire in Australia, Pierro (Lonhro) is the sire of six Group One winners. The quintessential racehorse and Champion First and Second Season Sire in Australia, Pierro only ever ran in stakes races, winning eleven of his fourteen starts. The unbeaten Triple Crown winner as a two-year-old amassed $4.5 million and already had yearling progeny reach $1.5m in the sales ring.
He is from a mare by Champion Sire and leading broodmare sire Volksraad (Green Desert), and the family of capable stakes winners Bird of Fire (Stravinsky) and Excelleration (Exceed and Excel).
“Miss Judged was a solid performing mare that won a couple of times over 1200m and 1400 metres and already left two winners from three foals,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis.
“He’s still a little bit immature but has plenty of upside and he will just keep improving when we get him back to the farm. He’s slighter neater than a lot by Pierro and an ideal type to get up and run as a two-year-old. We expect him to train on as a very nice three-year-old.
“Pierro is doing a terrific job at stud and this colt has a bit of quality about him.”
Dean Hawkins (Wentwood Grange) said: “He’s a lovely strong colt and a real racehorse, as is the family. He walks well and really settled in well at the sales. He’s got a great attitude to everything that happens at Karaka, and paraded like a toff.
“He’s got plenty of strength and should just continue to develop.”
