Lot 12 chestnut colt Iffraaj – Kate Cross (Cape Cross) $200,000 (draft: Windsor Park)
He is a half-brother to Group One winner Consensus (Postponed), a multiple group winning mare that recently sold for $622,500 on gavelhouse.com.
By Iffraaj (Zafonic), a high-quality proven International Group One stallion and the sire of Te Akau trained triple Group One winner Gingernuts.
His dam sire, Cape Cross (Green Desert), is the sire of Horse of the Year Seachange, and Te Akau trained Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) winner Kindacross. He sired 21 Group One winners worldwide and proved very successful as a broodmare sire.
“He’s a lovely chestnut colt and very similar to Gingernuts,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “The mare has left terrific race mare Consensus, who was not only very talented but extremely durable. She was a debut winner at two that trained on winning 11 races up to 2100 metres.
“There are a lot of two-year-old winners in the family. He’s a very nice type of horse and one we think he can race at two and train on. Plus, he’s by a proven stallion that we’ve had a lot of success with.”
