Lot 13 bay colt Snitzel – Katie Lee (Pins) $375,000 (draft: Cambridge Stud)
Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), one of three in the trilogy of breed shaping champion stallions in Australia, along with Danehill (Danzig), and Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), stands at Arrowfield Stud for $220,000 + GST. A two-time Champion Sire of Two-Year-Olds in Australia, he equalled then surpassed Danehill with the record number of individual two-year-old winners in a season – a mark that now stands at 35. He has also headed the General Sires’ List twice and Australian Champion Sire in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
The colt is out of Katie Lee, the first horse in history to win both the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m). Her progeny have sold for $2.99 million.
“He’s a really good Karaka Million type colt, out of a great mare, by a proper stallion that can leave a very good two-year-old,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis.
“He’s very athletic and one we just had to have at the sale. He’s a medium sized colt that looks a runner and has a great attitude. He came out and paraded perfectly each time we inspected him.
“We’re really pleased to get him and he’s from a wonderful family.”
Henry Plumptre (Cambridge Stud) said: “He’s a classic combination of mum and dad. Snitzel is a fantastic stallion. They are workmanlike and Snitzel punches well above his weight. The mare’s had a few chances, but we think that the two-year-old Iffraaj colt Brazier is very promising and we really like everything about this colt.”
THIS COLT IS PART OF TE AKAU’S FOUR COLT STALLION SYNDICATE –
