Lot 283 bay filly Savabeel – Silk Pins (Pins) $360,000 (draft: Cambridge Stud)
By our five-time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), from a mare that finished second in the Karaka Million (Restricted Listed, 1200m) and Second Top Filly on the NZ Free Handicaps.
“She’s a really good sort of filly, one for the race (Karaka Million) and typical of the progeny by this unbelievable sire,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “The filly has plenty of class and a strong pedigree.
“She’s a natural runner and from a filly that won on debut as a two-year-old when beating our Champion Two-Year-Old Warhorse (General Nediym), so that shows what a good filly she was.
Silk Pins proceeded to finish second at her next start in the Murdoch Newell Stakes (Listed, 1100m), third in the Matamata Breeders’ Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) and Diamond Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m), as well as her second in the Karaka Million.
Scott Calder (Cambridge Stud) said: “She’s always been one of our standouts in the draft and bred on the same Savabeel / Pins cross as Probabeel. It’s a cross that has worked very well.
“Silk Pins was a very good two-year-old and this filly has always looked very sharp. She looks like a Savabeel filly that will run early. Hopefully she’s one that you can start thinking about campaigning towards the Karaka Million.”
