Lot 449 brown filly Savabeel – Baby Shacks (O’Reilly) $325,000 (draft: Waikato Stud)
By five-time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), a Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) winning three-year-old, that a night before the sale sired both the Te Akau trained Karaka Million (Restricted Listed, 1200m) winner Cool Aza Beel and $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (Restricted, Listed 1600m) winner Probabeel.
The filly was part of an historical moment in the auction ring at Karaka, providing Charlotte Chittick (18) with the first horse she paraded.
Mark Chittick (Waikato Stud) said: “Once again from a great family and a beautiful filly, and a very proud moment for all of us. She was one of our favourite fillies and we made sure it was the right horse for Charlotte to parade.”
Dam Baby Shacks is a half-sister to inaugural winner of the Karaka Million (Restricted Listed, 1200m) Vincent Mangano (No Excuse Needed) and sister to multiple stakes winner Joey Massino.
“She’s got a Karaka Million winner close up in the family and we think she’s the perfect type to set for the great race,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis.
“It was tremendous to be part of an amazing occasion for Charlotte Chittick. She’s such a special young lady and this filly was prepared by the best and leading breeders in New Zealand. It was exciting for me, but certainly not the reason that we bought the filly. I really think she’s a Karaka Million type filly, with a beautiful pedigree, and from a classy family that’s full of two-year-old form.
“She’s got a lot of class, a lot of quality, and by the all-conquering stallion. She’s got a good deep, rich colour, much like the stallion, out of a proven mare and it’s a beautiful cross.”
Charlotte Chittick said: “I just love her. She is so chill and is so good-looking. Her pedigree is awesome, so I thought she was perfect. DC (David Ellis) was the buyer which was awesome, because I love that guy, he is so cool.”
