Lot 627 brown colt Savabeel – Got It (Pins) $155,000 (draft: Waikato Stud)
Bred on the same cross as history making filly Probabeel (Savabeel), who became the first horse to win the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (Restricted, Listed 1600m) a year on from winning the Karaka Million (Restricted Listed, 1200m).
“We really liked this colt when we saw him during our inspections at Waikato Stud,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “He’s a little bit immature, but a horse that is really going to come on from the sale.
“He’s from a wonderful family and we think he’s the sort of horse to develop into a later autumn two-year-old and train on to be a Derby type horse.”
By five-time Champion Sire Savabeel, dam sire Pins (Snippets) is a well-established broodmare sire and his daughters have left 34 stakes winners.
He is from one of most potent and current families at Waikato Stud, including Champion Three-Year-Old (up to 1600m) and four-time Group One winner Sacred Falls (O’Reilly). Bought at Karaka, he won the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m), AJC Doncaster (Gr. 1, 1600m) twice, and George Main Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) and earned $5.1 million.
Also in the family, Splashing Out commenced her racing career with a hat-trick of wins, culminating in the Thoroughbred Club (Gr. 3, 1200m) at Caulfield, before finishing second in the Ascot Vale (Gr. 1, 1200m) at Flemington. At stud, she has already left five time winner Shopaholic (Pins), successful in the Vanity Stakes (Gr. 3, 1410m) at Flemington, and the Armanasco Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m) at Caulfield. Along with debut winner Spending (Pins).
From the same family, Te Akau also bought and trained Splurge (Savabeel), who numbered Group Two and Three victories among eight wins that included three in succession.
