Karaka 2020 – Lot 669 Iffraaj (GB) – Instone, Bay Filly

Lot 669 bay filly Iffraaj – Instone (Pour Moi) $50,000 (draft: Windsor Park)

A filly with terrific pedigree attributes, by high-quality proven International Group One stallion Iffraaj, the sire of the Te Akau triple Group One winner Gingernuts. On the dam side, she has one of the most famous winners ever produced in New Zealand. Horlicks (Three Legs), her fourth dam, won the Japan Cup (Gr. 1, 2400m) (setting a world record: 2:22.0). She won five Group Ones among 17 wins and went on to become the dam of Melbourne Cup (Gr. 1, 3200m) winner Brew.

Rodney Schick (Windsor Park) said: “She’s very much a running sort of filly, with a great attitude, and she’s a very good mover. In addition to that, she has a lovely (pedigree) page.”

“We thought she was really good buying and the mother is a half-sister to Aretha (Charm Spirit), the winner of the Matamata Breeders’ Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) and Group One placed in the Diamond Stakes (1200m) and the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m),” said Te Akau principal David Ellis.

“This filly has great natural strength and a strong two-year-old type. Plus, she’s from a really good family.

“Her dam sire Pour Moi is a chance to become a good broodmare stallion, while Stravinsky, Maroof, and Three Legs, the sires further back in the family are all very influential and top broodmare sires.”

Pour Moi was an incredible winner of the Epsom Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m), and his sire, Montjeu (Sadler’s Wells), was one of the highest quality horses in the world, winning the Irish Derby, French Derby, and Arc de Triomphe, before experiencing a lot of success when standing at stud in New Zealand.
